Good luck, he added. Enjoy yourself, folks. .....
But wasn’t Reagan also still married to the idea of the USA as savior of the world?
No matter how familiar and fond, something based on folly can’t prosper forever.
I've got this one from the not-particularly leftist "Japan Times", just only about five days ago:
China would do whatever it wants, said Tsuneo Watanabe, policy research director at the Tokyo Foundation, a policy think tank. Even if the U.S. wanted to return to the region, it would be very expensive. As for Trumps remark about Japan becoming a nuclear power, Watanabe said South Korea would follow suit if Japan developed a nuclear arsenal, further destabilizing the regions balance of power. That would not be a positive outcome for the U.S., which is benefiting from investing in Asia, Watanabe said. Despite Trumps assertion that the U.S. is being taken for a ride by allies that huddle under Washingtons nuclear umbrella, Japan has been paying host nation support to the U.S. military since 1978. The financial package covers expenses such as utilities and housing. In January, the government agreed to allocate about ¥950 billion in host nation support, the most paid by all U.S. allies, over the next five years. Masaru Nishikawa, associate professor of American politics at Tokyo-based Tsuda College, said the public and media should not be swayed by Trumps remarks, because the billionaire does not seem to understand the U.S.-Japan alliance and changes his positions regularly. It is unclear if he can or would do what he says, even if he does get elected. He seems willing to say anything to win the primaries, he said.
See my #176 and #181.
Have a nice evening.
There ya go. It’s long past time to renegotiate EVERYTHING.
You are one of the most brilliant, stellar thinkers here on FR, I’ve gotta tell you.
One joker spews a bunch of boilerplate talking points, and the other one rubber stamps it.
You two try thinking outside the box for a change.
If possible.
Thank you Rose.
Funny. That’s just what I read from the pages of the Peoples Daily in Red Beijing the other day.... / s
I read the bullet points and didn’t have to read anymore...
So your cogent explanation of why Americans must borrow money from China and Japan in order to spend money protecting Japan from China is because of a 60+ year old, ONE sided mutual aid treaty? That sounds like a terrible excuse, not sound reasoning. When that treaty was signed how much money did we owe China and Japan?
Explaining the mechanism (treaty obligation) is not providing the reasoning. When the facts change, does your opinion change? Or do you remain hopelessly locked in the past irrespective of the present and the future?
Keep your day job. Comedy is not your strong suit.
God Bless you Dragnet. One of my favorite Freepers! Thanks for weighing in on my side in this thread. ‘Preciate it.
Look, your posts are nonsensical. Try using nouns, verbs, and adjectives to construct a thought. Right now you are apparently doing your best Trump imitation or you are having a stroke.
Such theatrics by the neocon crowd. Trump also supports a Nuclear Japan to deal REGIONALLY with a crazy North Korea. Yep, times are a changin and it’s no longer the responsibility of the US to protect everyone and NOT get paid for it.
He’s not running for commander in Chief of China....
That’s what I thought. You are incapable of communication on a basic level.
And like your idol, all you have to fall back on is vulgarity.
Good job chump.
