The message Trump is sending is that South Korea and Japan should not automatically assume that were going to come running to their defense.
Simple: take out your own garbage.
What the hell?! We have thousands of troops there. I guess they go out with the garbage along with our treaty obligations.
Don't be a drama queen. No one said (or is saying) that our troops would be going out like 'garbage'.
Pull our troops out of both highly industrialized nations that can stand on their own two feet, inform Kim Jong Un (and Beijing) that if so much as one artillery shell or no-dong, ding-dong, or lo-dong missile strikes either South Korean or Japanese soil that we will honor our treaty commitment by wiping Pyongyang from the face of the Earth using CONVENTIONAL weapons (not nukes due to the close proximity of Seoul).
Believe this: you cut off the head of the serpent, the rest of the snake dies quickly. If the North Korean Army realizes their oppressors in Pyongyang are no longer breathing oxygen, the only thing they're going to do is to consolidate their own personal political power, cut the best deal they can with either Beijing or Seoul, and North Korea's long national nightmare can end.

But wasn’t Reagan also still married to the idea of the USA as savior of the world?
No matter how familiar and fond, something based on folly can’t prosper forever.

Anyways, I see it as dangerous rhetoric.
I've got this one from the not-particularly leftist "Japan Times", just only about five days ago:
China would do whatever it wants, said Tsuneo Watanabe, policy research director at the Tokyo Foundation, a policy think tank. Even if the U.S. wanted to return to the region, it would be very expensive. As for Trumps remark about Japan becoming a nuclear power, Watanabe said South Korea would follow suit if Japan developed a nuclear arsenal, further destabilizing the regions balance of power. That would not be a positive outcome for the U.S., which is benefiting from investing in Asia, Watanabe said. Despite Trumps assertion that the U.S. is being taken for a ride by allies that huddle under Washingtons nuclear umbrella, Japan has been paying host nation support to the U.S. military since 1978. The financial package covers expenses such as utilities and housing. In January, the government agreed to allocate about ¥950 billion in host nation support, the most paid by all U.S. allies, over the next five years. Masaru Nishikawa, associate professor of American politics at Tokyo-based Tsuda College, said the public and media should not be swayed by Trumps remarks, because the billionaire does not seem to understand the U.S.-Japan alliance and changes his positions regularly. It is unclear if he can or would do what he says, even if he does get elected. He seems willing to say anything to win the primaries, he said.

暴言王 Personally I translate that as "king of abusive tirade" but, ymmv, I didn't read the entire article for context, which is needed for translating Japanese.

One joker spews a bunch of boilerplate talking points, and the other one rubber stamps it.
You two try thinking outside the box for a change.
If possible.

Treaty of Mutual Cooperation and Security between the United States and Japan, signed So your cogent explanation of why Americans must borrow money from China and Japan in order to spend money protecting Japan from China is because of a 60+ year old, ONE sided mutual aid treaty? That sounds like a terrible excuse, not sound reasoning. When that treaty was signed how much money did we owe China and Japan?
Explaining the mechanism (treaty obligation) is not providing the reasoning. When the facts change, does your opinion change? Or do you remain hopelessly locked in the past irrespective of the present and the future?

Look, your posts are nonsensical. Try using nouns, verbs, and adjectives to construct a thought. Right now you are apparently doing your best Trump imitation or you are having a stroke.

Such theatrics by the neocon crowd. Trump also supports a Nuclear Japan to deal REGIONALLY with a crazy North Korea. Yep, times are a changin and it’s no longer the responsibility of the US to protect everyone and NOT get paid for it.

That’s what I thought. You are incapable of communication on a basic level.
And like your idol, all you have to fall back on is vulgarity.
Good job chump.
