Concerns About Paul Ryan Emerging Out of Ted Cruz-Created Contested Convention
Brietbart News ^ | April 2, 2016 | Julia Hahn

In recent weeks, there has been increasing discussion about the possibility that House Speaker Rep. Paul Ryan (R-WI)56% could emerge out of a brokered convention as the Republican nominee if the donor class is successful in denying Donald Trump the requisite 1,237 delegates.

Just as Paul Ryan’s ascension to House Speaker represented a total repudiation of the GOP electorate by GOP lawmakers, Ryan’s selection as the Party’s nominee would similarly represent the donor class’s silencing of voters and voters’ views on immigration, trade, and foreign policy that have transformed the country and its role in the world.

[...]

Although Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) 97%’s political ideology is in line with Ryan’s brand of Washington think-tank conservatism—whether it’s Cruz’s record of pushing for expanded foreign worker programs or offshoring trade policies—party leaders seem to prefer Paul Ryan’s presentation, and are likely to use Cruz’s gains to ultimately throw delegates towards Ryan. The media is correct in that voters are currently facing an election between Trump and anti-Trump, but the media has failed to articulate the policies differences between them.

Cruz was never GOPe. He was reviled by the McCain/McConnell crowd.

Show me one shred of anti-Establishmentness out of Ted Cruz pre TEA revolution. You can’t because he was mainline GOP his entire life until he self serving surfed the TEA wave. Harvard, Bush Admin, corporate law, etc. Ted Cruz is a bought and paid for climbing career politician who looks out for #1. Nothing more or less. Period.

If they know we will ditch someone who is open borders they probably will relent just to save themselves.

It’s 1976 all over again, but this time with Trump instead of Reagan. If the party bosses win you’ll be seeing President Hillary in January 2017.

I didn’t live through it but it’s looking more like 1964 to me.

It was 17 and I thought that 15 of them were Cheap Labor Express guys, turns out it was 16, Cruz had really good camoflage from his acting like he was against the Cartel.

The only candidate running who is with the citizens and the rule of law is Trump.

Actually, the see a Hillary win preferable to a Trump, and I suspect Cruz as well nomination.

They don’t see eight years of Obama as a loss. They’re still getting donations and bribes and pretending to represent us.

Until that’s no longer viable, they’ll keep at it.

Trump is THE ONLY HOPE to stop that.

No that I accept your premise for a second, because I do not, but John Thune? John f’in Thune? The guy who voted to make backyard gardens illegal and give Monsanto control over our entire food supply? That John Thune?

You can stick that where the sun don’t shine, pal.

Show me one shred of anti-Establishmentness out of Ted Cruz pre TEA revolution. You can’t because he was mainline GOP his entire life until he self serving surfed the TEA wave.

In 2003, Cruz was appointed solicitor general and returned to Texas. In his five years in the post, he wrote 70 briefs to the Supreme Court and argued before the court nine times. He was involved in numerous high-profile cases, including defending the Ten Commandments monument on the Texas State Capitol grounds, the recitation of the Pledge of Allegiance in public schools and the 2003 Texas redistricting plan.

How Dare Cruz try to win the Presidential primary.

Ted Cruz has already lost. Unfortunately, Ted Cruz is about Ted Cruz and his supporters are apparently unable to perform simple math.

The part that gets me to no end is that there are so many Cruz supporters who actually think he is going to win at a brokered convention and they also believe that he can beat Hillary after the media turns on him. Cruz will not get a single cross over vote and he will lose many Trump voters.

Are we just supposed to ignore the rules because the Trump supporters don't like them? If that's the case, Trump should just be given the Presidency. Why bother with that pesky general election?

The fundamental complaint is that the rules are operating in a manner against democracy. E.g., Cruz somehow gets more delegates from Louisiana than Trump even though Trump got more actual votes than Cruz. There does not appear to be any good reason for rules like that.

"I didn’t live through it but it’s looking more like 1964 to me."

It is a nearly an exact replica of the 64 primaries.

The ENTIRE Republican Party was aligned against Goldwater. They gave speeches on the Convention floor warning of the demise of the Republican party should they nominate him. Their attacks were mimicked by the Democrats in the General election, resulting in the infamous "Daisy Ad".

In fact Republicans continued to attack Goldwater AFTER he won the nomination and all the way up to the election.

Of course it is.

Those pesky voters and the will of the people be damned.

Well, no more than rejecting the will of the people in the 2000 presidential election.
