Air France stewardesses say they will refuse to fly to the Iranian capital when the airline resumes the service later this month
Air France stewardesses, furious at being ordered to wear headscarves in Tehran, say they will refuse to fly to the Iranian capital when the airline resumes the service later this month.
Female members of flight crews have been ordered to cover their hair once they disembark in Tehran and unions are demanding that the flights be made voluntary for women.
The resumption of a thrice-weekly service between Paris and Tehran, planned for April 17 after an eight-year break, follows a thaw in relations since Iran agreed to dismantle large sections of its nuclear programme.
Iranian women have been forced by law to cover their hair or face stiff fines since the 1979 Islamic revolution. In staunchly secular France, however, public signs of religion have been frowned upon since a 1905 law separating church and state.

Abedin’s father, Syed Zainul Abedin, was Indian, and her mother, Saleha Mahmood Abedin, is Pakistani.
Abedin was born in Kalamazoo, Michigan. At the age of two, Abedin moved with her family to Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, where she was raised and lived until returning to the United States for college.
At age 18, Abedin entered George Washington University, where she earned a Bachelor of Arts degree.

Do you remember the poll here, on which country produced the most beautiful women? I never voted - not sufficiently cosmopolitan, and didn’t want to offend anyone - but as I recall it was a dead heat between Iran, and Venezuela.
The problem is that it’s the law in Iran, and generally you obey the laws of the country you are visiting, and if you can’t, then you don’t go there.
I applaud the idea, though.
And if Air France hires Muslim women with hijabs, who wins?
Scandinavian women top my list, but tri-racial Caribbean women score a close second.
