That makes sense, as well. But I do believe it should be left up to the states.

What Trump said initially was logical. If in the future abortion is a crime, of course there has to be some form of punishment.

I agree. If a law doesn’t have consequences, is it law? I am deeply saddened by official pro-life movements jumping out of the frying pan when the heat got turned on. But the assumption by the media that punishment meant jail time was equally ridiculous.

We need a conversation about how to make abortion not just illegal but also unthinkable. How do we turn our culture back to the sanctity of life?

” It is hard to educate them on that topic, because there is big money in abortion, and the abortion industry owns the media and politicians.”

Oh, I think if some dramatic film was made of an obviously healthy child in the womb whose life is terminated by his brains being opened up and sucked dry so a mother doesn’t (like Obama has delicately put it) ‘get punished for making a mistake’, there would be a lot of changes in the minds of mothers and the abortion industry.

It is the reason PP fights hard not to allow any counseling to take place on women considering abortions. It knows with knowledge their gig is up. Those motherhood instincts are very very powerful.

>>>The other is that Trump as any guy would really stepped into it when he tried to figure out what women want.<<<

Look at Bill Clinton post Monica. Most of the women who voted for him kept on supporting him. It’s like all guys who try to be nice and decent only to lose the affection of their desire to some bad boy.

The issue with Trump is the opposite of Clinton. This remark will largely make women who used to support Trump back off. You can’t tell women anything they do is wrong when it comes to abortion (I don’t know why). He did try to disavow his punish the woman comment. We will see how much it sticks to him.

” then Planned Parenthood decided to sell the body parts to keep bloated, greedy Americans alive.”

Nope, that is not the reason.

It was to make money.

She won't appoint anyone if Trump appoints her.

Good grief. Trump isn't going to put Hillary Clinton on the Supreme Court.

And what has Pastor Ted ever done for social conservatives other than flapping his gums? Cruz punting on Lawrence v. Texas is a lot worse than anything Trump’s has ever said.

You are giving Don Trump way to much credit for thinking this through. Don doesn’t care about social issues at all. Abortion, gay marriage,etc....

“Is Cruz brave enough to say this?”

Bravery is standing up for the unborn, not going along with Roe v. Wade.

Great. Here comes yet another round of the Republican-abortion-circular-firing squad.

We've elected many imposters who are only willing to use aroma therapy to fight the cancer of abortion. Maybe that's why we are buying the farm against the most feckless and ugly opponent in U.S. History.

Trump was correct in his comment but he screwed up by answering a hypothetical question in the first place. Maybe this is a good thing, he will learn to steer clear of these questions.

As for Pro life movement, they HATE Trump. They are a single issue organization. They will only vote for a candidate that swears he will repeal abortion, even if said candidate will have no chance of winning.

Instead they could support the very viable Trump, hold their nose and let him move the ball back in the right direction, propelling us toward a friendlier supreme court which might eventually fulfill their goals!

“And what has Pastor Ted ever done for social conservatives...”

What has Trump done for Conservatives at all? Hard to help the life cause when you’re a registered Democrat refusing to denounce partial birth.

Your boy shows his liberal slip from time to time. True Conservatives see it every time it pops out. “Living and breathing” Conservatives make excuses and point to Cruz for rationalization.

Trump’s strengths are trade, immigration, and the non-PC talk.
He has softened his stance on both trade and immigration.
When faced with something outside of trade or immigration, he says something, gets called on it, and pivots to the left.
He thinks the Fed Govt should regulate healthcare and education.
He wants our allies to pay for military protection, an idea first brought out by Jesse Jackson in the 1980’s when he ran for president.
Trump is not some establishment destroyer.
He is a name caller who turns left when challenged.
His colors are beginning to show.

And Ted Cruz does? How so? He declined to argue one of the biggest family values cases in history at the SCOTUS. The homos won and now we have legal sodomy in all 50 states. Thank you Ted Cruz.

With how quickly he backed down, he got an earful from the women in his life and on his staff.

Trump portrays himself as when Melania or Ivanka say something, he listens. It's actually kind of endearing that the ultimate Alpha male changed his response so quickly.

A vote for Trump is a vote for abortion

I hate abortion as much as anyone, but no president will be able to change it. Period. For people like you to get all wrapped around the axle over it is just stupid.

Trump is going to appoint judges that will be much better than any that Hillary or Bernie will appoint.

I feel stopping illegal immigration, making better trade deals, cutting wasteful spending, and getting us out of protecting ungrateful countries are things that a president can do and Trump is the one to do them.

“Nothing can be done on abortion until Roe vs Wade is overturned...”

May I ask you OR another learned FReeper this question: how does a SC case get over turned? What are the chances that such a case WOULD be over turned? Is it even possible and if so.. how? My question is truly an honest one and I have wondered if other methods could reduce abortion significantly? For example, if PP is defunded... I wonder aloud how many abortions would be reduced? If states restrict the time limits (say.. only in the first trimester).. would that reduce them significantly?

Ladies and gentlemen,

This is the smartest thing (and most truthful) that Trump has said so far. Why?

Because of THIS:

Roe Settled as Court Precedent: Roberts stated that the landmark 1973 ruling Roe v. Wade legalizing abortion was “settled as a precedent.”3 At the Senate confirmation hearing, Roberts responding to Pennsylvania Senator Arlen Spectator said of Roe, “It’s settled as a precedent of the court, entitled to respect under principles of stare decisis. And those principles, applied in the Casey case, explain when cases should be revisited and when they should not. And it is settled as a precedent of the court, yes.“4 Roberts reasoned “I think it is a jolt to the legal system when you overturn precedent....It is not enough that you may think that a prior decision [like Roe v Wade] was wrongly decided.

http://prolifeprofiles.com/john-roberts-and-abortion

I haven’t found the video yet and I may not subject myself to listening to hours and hours of dry testimony to find it but I know that Roberts said to some Senator during his hearing that he will NOT take any case that would have the effect of overturning Roe. I remember it because I saw it, and said “Holy sh*t, what were you thinking, George?” However, Roberts says essentially that in the quoted piece above.

Any conservative that decides their vote on abortion and nothing else is going to be sorely disappointed. That decision survived Reagan, GHWB, and GWB (partly with both houses of Congress.

It will survive Trump......and CRUZ.

Indeed! Most mothers will turn away from abortion once they hear their sweet baby’s heartbeat.

That’s what Trump should have said. This is totally a “gotcha” question and Trump let himself be trapped. His naivety bothers me more than what he said. That being said, he could also say that women who abort their babies are punished. I know a woman who had an abortion 40 years ago and she’s still depressed. Usually the relationship ends with the baby’s father. Often the woman cannot have children in the future or if she does fails to bond. These are facts. Putting a woman in jail? We do if she kills the baby five minutes after it’s born. Why not five minutes before?
