We haven’t had federalism for about 100 years; soft imperialism substituted for it, which is calcifying at present.

One after another, the states show they cannot be trusted either. And people wonder why “Federalism” isn’t popular.

Remember when Bill Clinton headed off an effort to get a constitutional amendment by signing that Defense of Marriage act?

I said at the time that this was just a delaying action. If we didn't FORCE a constitutional amendment down their throats, this was going to come back and bite us.

Same thing with "Don't ask, Don't Tell." It was just setting up the battleground for a later assault.
