Weekly Standard ^ | March 29, 2016 | SHOSHANA WEISSMANN

Posted on 03/29/2016 8:49:18 PM PDT by CA Conservative

On Tuesday during CNN's town hall, Donald Trump was asked what he thinks are the top three functions of government.

He answered, "[t]he greatest function of all by far is security for our nation. I would also say health care, I would also say education."

Republicans have long tried to limit the federal government's involvement in health care and education.

I’m impressed you can see into men’s souls. That’s a good tool to have.

“The vapidness and stupidity is on display again this election with the adulation and worship of Trump by voters who turn a blind eye to all the signs of a disaster in the making.”

Do you mean, as opposed to when we thoroughly vetted and drunkenly celebrated the appointments of Justices Souter and Roberts? I don’t know what kind of guarantee there is anymore that anyone knows what anyone is going to do once they get elected. Including you.

“Apparently, he also thinks the federal government is responsible for providing housing and good neighborhoods.”

This guy is such an idiot. Can’t believe anyone would think he should be president.

Interesting... I just heard Ted Cruz talk about using the military overseas, Iraq, Libya,Syria,ISIS....his answer was EXACTLY, let me repeat, EXACTLY the same as what Trump has been saying for months. The only difference is Trump answers it in 60 sec... Cruz took 5 min.

Interesting !!!

He also believes the fed should be taking care of our vets. He states over and over again that should be a top priority.

I agree.

Ted Cruz looks like an undercooked Bob Hope cookie. No offence to Bob Hope. God rest his soul.

He is for what ever ‘itchy ears’ want to hear until they want to hear something else.

So sensible and so true.

And yet people loved Trump for saying he wouldn’t let people die in the street.

My husband went to the emergency room a couple of times for heart issues.

While we were there the last time, a Black couple came in with their son who had head lice. The kid received treatment, instructions to the parents and medication.

The hospital personnel were totally respectful and kind to the couple.

Immediately after that family left, a similar family came in with the same complaint with their son. Same scenario.

Not only does nobody die in the street, nobody even has head lice in the street.

Way to defend Donald Trump.... by insulting the looks of another candidate.

So mature, so Donald.

He would be proud.

Why is it when Trump opens his mouth, which is all the time, that someone has to go behind him and clarify and explain and correct and interpret and on and on.

Why? Because when your real beliefs would scare of the marks/suckers that you are trying to con into voting for you, it is hard to remember what the "official positions" are and its easy to screw up.

That’s because Trump tosses off generalities and has no real understanding of the military or defense.

Trump actually knows the drill.

But if you like short words, repeated over and over, then Trump is your man.

Good grief. I was where you are several months ago. I now realize Trump has no intention of uniting anything or anybody. If he gets elected, it will be one controversy an hour. His is the presidency where if one does not have a smart phone on him every second, will rush home to find out what Trump said in the last three hours - who he insulted, how he did it and who is protesting outside of the White House. There will be a daily count of people trying to jump the fence at the White House. Daily denunciations by Congress and a massive leak fest by government workers on anything the White House touches.

Since Trump is massively and grotesquely undisciplined, his term will be a complete mess beginning just hours after being sworn in.

Do you have a reading problem?

What was quoted? Let’s try it again. Maybe you’ll get it this time.

> “Republicans have long tried to limit the federal government’s involvement in health care and education.”

You believe that? If you do, then you’re a fool. Republicans have done nothing to stop the growth of the federal leviathan.

Donald Trump’s plan for healthcare is based on free market dynamics:

https://www.donaldjtrump.com/positions/healthcare-reform

His first item is to repeal Obamacare.

Donald Trump’s plan for Education has not yet been released but he never said there was a federal government responsibility. There is ALWAYS a government involvement in public education even if only at the county or municipal level. It’s always been there so long as there’s been public education.

But there’s a hidden level of federal involvement in education, at the university level and in research institutes for advanced scientists and scholars. I am sure Donald Trump will work to fund this activity maximally in accordance with risk-reward deliberations.

So again this is just bullsh*t by media pukes barking “Look! Look! He’s not a conservative!”.

When the revolution comes, there will be heads in the media that will roll as their businesses go under. Because they are sustained by a bloated Beltway network of pigs feeding at the government trough. They will go under. Count on it.

We’re trying to talk about issues here.

Not really. You have issues that can't be talked about, like Terdy and his bimbo eruption! Ted talks about "Donald Trump says..." at least thirty times per interview. Donald Trump lives LARGE in the heads of the Terdy Bares, rent free!

Vote for a winner. Vote Trump!

Congratulations on making a reasonable, rational, clever and salient point in this vapid Free Republic political season. (I have no idea who you support but you deserve a nod for saying something intelligent).

“has no real understanding of the military or defense.”

His answer was exactly the same as Cruz. So your saying that it is a bad thing that he can say in 60 sec what it took Cruz 5 min.

I was a big proponent of Trump, but over the past month he’s gone down the crapper in my eyes.

I thought he’d pivot to more Presidential. Nope.

I thought he’d learn a bit more about issue specifics over time. Nope.

The topper was when he shows up in my state and continues to trash Scott Walker and tell falsehoods about him. I voted for Walker for Governor three times and will do it a fourth in 2018 as he:

Massively lowered my property taxes
Balanced the budget while lowering income taxes
Cut out the forced union dues money
Instituted a tough Voter ID law
Passed concealed carry and castle doctrine
Instituted business friendly practices
Vetoed and turned away Obama’s stimulus money for a terrible rail project

Even Reagan couldn’t have done what Walker did in Wisconsin. And yet Trump keeps saying it sucks here and Walker bad.

Trump has lost it people.
