On Tuesday during CNN's town hall, Donald Trump was asked what he thinks are the top three functions of government.
He answered, "[t]he greatest function of all by far is security for our nation. I would also say health care, I would also say education."
Republicans have long tried to limit the federal government's involvement in health care and education.

Exactly right, Dave.
Trump can’t get what he thinks straight in his own head and he is incapable of expressing himself clearly.
Read his interview with the Washington Post. Really scary to see his words written out.
“No worries, tomorrow morning Trump will have never actually said that.
On this forum it wont even take that long.”
Good one!
Because Trump himself says it.
Who you gonna believe? Trump or Trump?
How long can you trumpers protect Trump from his own words by blaming the source?
Need I say more?
I do hope Trump sharpens his policy answers for the General election and the end of the primaries to make sure this thing is settled before he even gets to convention.
He’s a sharp guy, he can keep his plain speak while getting sharper and clearer.
He’ll have lots of gotcha questions.
Anderson Cooper annoyed me, he let Ted drone on and on with his canned remarks and interrupted Donald every few words.
I might just save myself frustration and just turn off tv and news for the next several months.
Local education and private-based health care is what he called for, in addition to national security.
“So Trump thinks education and health care”
I’m not sure what country you live in, but in America we 10’s of millions of senior citizens are paycheck to paycheck and have sub-standard healthcare. I understand ultra-conservatives have a line they can’t cross. But at some point you are killing Americans by holding that line.
One out of tgree is a very good start
Anyone who can come up with a conservative who will preside as a conservative, beat Hillary, create a border (which has been destroyed), and resist treating invaders as above even combat veterans, bring him on
Who’s stopping them?
So, let me see. You are now blaming Bob Dole for what Donald Trump said today.
And you want to elect someone who says the same thing?
At least today, he said it. He should bone up on his home page every day so he’ll know what he thinks.
Trump has some good things going for him. Unfortunately, a conservative ideology is not one of them.
Trump, I think, genuinely loves this country and cares for the citizens of this country.
He is very good at handling media attacks. And he does it without being PC.
He has committed himself to govern conservatively. I think that is his intention.
I could write about his flaws all day. And I have similar praise and criticism of Cruz. But, at the end of the day, these two are the best we’ve got against Clinton. And by all rights, Clinton should be a cinch to beat.
However, the bloodbath of the Republican primary needs to end quickly. Unless Trump and Cruz supporters unite, we are going to get a Democrat president. And that means the Supreme Court will rapidly take away free speech, freedom of religion, and the right to protect yourself. A lot is at stake.
So it might be worth pausing momentarily and asking, is repeating all this salacious stuff really worth throwing away what’s left of this nation?
It is obvious that Trump does not understand what he is supposed to believe. That is the problem. Someone wrote something really nice and put it on his website to make the gullible feel good. In the meantime, someone forgot to tell Trump to read his own website. I can’t wait until tomorrow for all the corrections, explanations and excuses that will be offered tomorrow, which is a regular occurrence every time Trump opens his mouth. What an undisciplined, vapid ****.
I would advise you to turn off TV if you see that Donald Trump is speaking.
He’s gone way off the reservation and his true self is beginning to be revealed.
Some of us knew it already.
That's the Art of the Deal, Dave! He keeps everyone so baffled with his ramblings, they just go along with it and hope everything works out.
Irrelevant. Trump says healthcare is one of the three greatest functions of government.
The question was answered with - Security, Security, Security. AC pressed further and Donald talked about the other items as responsibilities of gum't. The question was not answered to his approval, so AC asked again.
Poor Terdy Bares. Ted Cruz is a losing lying lawyer, and will never be anything more. He lied to get into the Senate and continues his lies today! He steals Trump's talking points and claims he has always used them. Lies, lies and damnable lies.
I kind of agree with you and Jim Robinson also made this point in an earlier thread but the further Trump drifts off into insanity and the more he throws out gratuitous insults to Ted Cruz ... example, always referring to him as Lying Ted.
Well, the more that stuff happens, the harder it’s going to be to come to unity.
Way to post a stupid and insulting cartoon.
We’re trying to talk about issues here.
Apologies and with all due respect, I can't let that fly. It's too simple for FR. It's a liberal light approach. Let's see if I can help.
No American has "substandard healthcare". What is "substandard"? Regardless of your ability to pay a bill, you go to a hospital, you get treated. You don't even have to have Obamacare...STILL. You can get medicine for free or damn near it on any one of the 50 state programs that will pay for ongoing health care and that is before you tap the federal government. Healthcare is NOT the issue. Did you mean insurance? Are we now associating health insurance with a standard of living? Is "Health insurance" now an inalienable right? Is health care an inalienable right?
We are, at some point, KILLING AMERICANS? Hows that? Here is where you should respond and clarify or recant. Otherwise, I don't see how you belong. Sorry for being direct.
At least Cruz has a brain and knows what he believes and can actually talk in full paragraphs.
