Seven hundred and forty-four people have been executed in the United States over the last 15 years. Just nine of them, according to the nonprofit Death Penalty Information Center, were killed by electrocution.
But that number may soon rise. Amid controversies over lethal injection drugs, several states are in the midst of reintroducing the electric chair as a method of state-sanctioned capital punishment.
The Virginia House of Delegates recently passed legislation that would require the use of the electric chair for condemned prisoners if lethal injection drugs cannot be found. Similar legislation passed Alabama's state house last year and became law in Tennessee the year before.
This renewed interest in the electric chair is in part a result of the increasing difficulty of obtaining the drugs necessary to carry out lethal injections, which has been the execution method of choice since the Supreme Court reinstituted the death penalty in 1976.
It is worth re-examining why the electric chair fell out of favor in the first place.

Although for politicians who have been tried and convicted of giving aid and comfort to the enemy, there is some public sentiment for sentencing them to be broken on the wheel.
No such thing as instant death. There is no painless way to kill. Lethal injection is for the witnesses, and is designed to make the process easier to watch. One can delude oneself into thinking that there is no pain or suffering, and that the condemned man just goes to sleep.
If it is decided to kill the condemned man, then a swift, sure way is best. That would be by firing squad. It’s quick, but not “instant.”
Or "Death By Monkeys"
Short answer.....yes. Executioners often would pick up the severed head and show them their dying body.
If I were ever guillotined, I'd like to go out by singing the first few words of "I ain't got nobody....."
Nothing can top ol’ Sparky
“Although for politicians who have been tried and convicted of giving aid and comfort to the enemy, there is some public sentiment for sentencing them to be broken on the wheel.”
Call me a softy, but I think that requires too much invested capital and probably a squadron of gubmint employees.
Trees and overhanging beams are plentiful, and as dfwgator points out, the rope is reusable.
For high-profile political criminals, there remains the final obloquy - his head on a pike!
Cheers!
In Mormonism, blood atonement is a controversial doctrine that taught that some crimes such as murder are so heinous that the atonement of Jesus does not apply. Hence basically your blood is supposed to be shed for your crime.
There was a story that during the French Revolution, an experiment was carried out.
The head blinked for a period of time after the execution.
They said I hadn’t done anything, so I can go free and live on an island somewhere.
6 Whoever sheds mans blood, By man his blood shall be shed; For in the image of God He made man.
Warm up Old Sparky and fry the maggots.
That right there is one of the biggest of left wing lies ever.
Every hospital has plenty of supplies of KCl, potassium chloride, the killing drug in the fatal injection cocktail, the other component of which is a high power sedative.
Don't known the concentration of KCl IV solution in the lethal cocktail. The KCl drip given to me was sufficiently powerful that a far too rapid drip rate caused my arm to feel as though I had been injected with napalm. Had to rip the IV port from my arm before a nurse responded.
Having experienced that, I am now a hard proponent of its use as a stand alone drug in capital punishment. The beasts that daily prey on us, our wives, and our children are not entitled to the privilege of going gently into the night.
I was thinking about that too...maybe tie to a wind turbine blade and spin til dead? Or cook at focal point of large solar collector? Gotta think green ya know...
A fitting end for all Communists!
What a great day it was. Hopefully coming soon to Cuba.
Or the ChiCom method. Only one bullet needed - and the guilty party has to pay for it!
Ceaucescu Retirement Parties are appropriate for actual tyrants.
It’s a little dramatic for squalid shysters!
