[...] It's not just senators and presidential candidates who are speaking out. Displaced IT professionals are telling about their experiences of having to train their visa-holding replacements. They are raising questions, and, increasingly, they are doing so in public.
The latest to do so is Craig Diangelo, a longtime employee at Northeast Utilities (now Eversource) until he trained his visa-holding replacement. He was laid off two years ago and has not spoken out about the incident because of a non-disparagement clause in his severance agreement.
The use of the visa at U.S. companies is an "epidemic" that has affected thousands, Diangelo said.
Approximately 200 IT workers at Eversource were laid off after the company hired India-based outsourcers Infosys and Tata Consultancy Services to provide IT services.
The non-disparagement clause in the severance package made former employees cautious about speaking out. But after two years since his layoff, Diangelo said he can no longer be silent.
With Blumenthal looking on, Diangelo said it was important for him to exercise his rights as an American.
"It's come to the point where the story has to get out," said Diangelo, who is calling for changes in the H-1B laws. "People have to stop being afraid of not being able to speak and doing everything anonymously."
Blumenthal has urged the company to drop the non-disparagement clause, which he calls a "gag order."
Eversource has defended itself, in part, by pointing out that its post-merger IT reorganization was needed to modernize its systems, and that it needed outside help to carry out the upgrades.
The utility also said that it only employs three people under a non-immigrant visa program. But Eversource is only describing its direct hires, not its contractor workforce. [...]

H1Bs are a pox on our society. They depress the wage rates of citizens whose families have paid taxes for years and years.
If Trump were in charge of these companies, he’d replace 90% of them with H1-B immigrants so he could make a dollar.
Because Trump's position on just about anything can vary from day to day. Who knows what he would do about H-1Bs when the dust settles?

It’s easy enough to be angry at the foreign suppliers (be it India or China or wherever). Not as easy to be angry at the tax and spend fiends in Washington who are now burning our candles at both ends and in the middle. Because the latter get to be anonymous, but we can say “India” or “China.”
But it’s the drain and uncertainty brought on by these fiends that has created a great temptation for companies to embrace foreign sourcing; even if it is Pyrrhic in the long run it can mean survival in the short run where everyone cares about next quarter, not next decade, as even the President dances while Belgium burns.
The old business model used to be long term loyalty to direct hires. To be able to approach this again means driving the uncertainty and heinous penalties out of the system.
The truth is never a disparement.

One come back method is through becoming a contractor — not all of them are overseas sourced.
But convince a judge if the ex employer goes scorched earth.
End the H1B. If a company can’t find enough “qualified” workers in the US, then open up another office in a country where they are qualified people. Problem solved.
Because Trump's position on just about anything can vary from day to day. Who knows what he would do about H-1Bs when the dust settles?

Sending IT or any computer work offshore should be grounds for a charge of Treason.
It’s putting Americans out of work and training foreigners in high tech that could put other countries in a more advanced state than the USA.
They’re a symptom. Don’t slap a band-aid on the rash. Give the antibiotic that will kill the infection.

A deal whose end goal is to “Make America Great” as seen through the lens of average America. A lot of people think that cute language is enough to hide the truth, and it isn’t.
I think the anger is more toward the corporate globalists gutting the American middle class to make a buck by using foreign suppliers.
