Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump leads his GOP rivals in California less than three months before the primary, according to a statewide survey released late Wednesday.
The Public Policy Institute of California poll showed support for Trump at 38 percent among likely Republican voters, followed by Ted Cruz at 19 percent and John Kasich at 12 percent. Marco Rubio, the Florida senator who ended his presidential bid last week, received 12 percent in the poll taken March 6 to March 15.
With the totals recalculated to account for Rubios departure, Trump remained at 38 percent while support for Cruz grew to 27 percent and Kasich to 14 percent. Under that scenario, Trump, a billionaire businessman and political newcomer, bests the others with voters across all age, education, gender and income groups.
The survey comes as California Republicans, a beleaguered lot in this heavily Democratic state, find themselves in the unlikely situation of possibly deciding the fate of their presidential nominee on June 7. The Republican presidential primary, unlike down-ticket contests, is closed to all non-GOP voters.
Yet Trumps statewide lead, if it holds, would guarantee him only 13 of the states 172 Republican delegates. The vast majority of Californias GOP delegates June 7 will be allocated by congressional district, with the winner of each of the states 53 districts receiving three delegates.

In order to stop Trump, the GOPe has to win CA. There is no other way.
And it's not until June 7th.
what a fake poll
The Arnold Schwarzenegger CA Republicans?
OK. Why is it “fake”? Did everyone in California convert to the Mormon cult over the weekend, and will suddenly break for Ted?
LOL. Expect some dirty tricks about Trump’s dog or something to come out from not Ted Cruz.
Barone: Trump Trails Hillary in 11 of 12 Battleground States
In the RealClearPolitics.com average of recent polls, Trump trails Clinton by six points, 47 to 41 percent.
Ted Cruz, in contrast, leads Clinton 46 to 45 percent.
Agreed Trump is tanking.
And Cruz is surging.
We’re not in Utah anymore Toto.
Yeah Cruz won 1 of the last 9 contests. Some surge.
Because California is just like Utah
What happens when you put Bushies in charge of your campaign? They play dirty and you have no say. Ted is being used to stop Trump no matter who gets hurt. In this case, Ted’s family will because these personal attacks never end well for those involved. The Melania ad shows he’s not in control of his own campaign. He should’ve disavowed it vehemently from the start.
Cruz need to have CA change their primary to a caucus and implement shenanigans
As someone who lived in CA for 15 years, this is probably pretty close to reality.
Bernie support will be hard to gauge.
“Did everyone in California convert to the Mormon cult over the weekend, and will suddenly break for Ted?”.......
If the article Fox’s Stacy Dash recently made public about Cruz’s supposed extramarital affairs, Cruz would be “toast” in Kalifornia and he would NEVER have taken Utah. It will be something to watch as the rest of the story surfaces.
(The Stacy Dash article was on FB earlier this AM but has since been “pulled”) Its hidden somewhere)
Amen and thank God for that...
This holds up it’s game set match
Cruz has a tenancy to win only in caucus states. (controlled voting).
What did he get in Utah 2500 votes? Wow.
National Enquirer running a front page story of Cruz having FIVE MISTRESSES! He had to pay. No way his looks got a woman.
