Some tech and gaming companies have left behind a shameful history of objectifying women in major promotional venues, but Microsoft's behavior at the 2016 Game Developers Conference this week was a surprising reversal of progress. Attendees of Microsoft's GDC party were greeted by women dancing on platforms a choice made not by the venue but by Microsoft.
In a comment emailed to The Verge, Xbox chief Phil Spencer said that the event "was not consistent or aligned to our values," and promised to "do better in the future." Here's Spencer's full comment:

Who do they think buy video games...and have the interest that drives them to be developers? Young men, perhaps?
Feminazzis
Here we go again!!!!
XBOX games aren’t PC. Why should their developer meetings be PC?
It's that attitude, dear, that's going to make you unwelcome at an XBOX developers event.
I guess nobody is supposed to have any fun anymore. Is that supposed to be the sign of an enlightened society? I think not. Some of these Microsoft workers need to loosen up a little. I’m betting if it was reversed, with women sitting in the audience, clapping and hooting to Chippendale dancers, nothing would have been said except, who’s paying for all the liquor?
You sell what people desire to buy. All the politically correct crap in the world fails as message so long as it just sits in the warehouse.
“Booth babes” is always a thing during E3. Websites have been highlighting them for 20 years. But, here come the SJWs.
>> were greeted by women dancing on platforms
God forbid!!!
“If I’m not enjoying something, nobody should”
Yeah, and that’s a problem. I’m no SJW, but women *developers* really feel like second class at these events.
I manage two (very very talented) women engineers, and am very careful to make sure the majority male staff don’t f**k with them just because they’re women. They have to be able to take the normal banter - and there is a lot - which is expected.
No, this is bull. We want women in tech, and this really doesn’t help. Sure I know the target market, and I know everyone who makes these games do, but you don’t do it at the people who *make* the games. That’s when it’s bull.
Yeah, they will have to do political correctness penance by producing games that nobody will buy.
Consider it a liberalism tax.
What about the dancers? Those girls are entitled to some kind of employment. Were they sex slaves or something? Or willing employees?
“We must ensure that diversity and inclusion are central to our everyday business and core values.”
We could really guarantee diversity by making every conference EXACTLY the same as every other conference. Maybe attendee uniforms? Futuristic jumpsuits for everyone? Maybe the exact same mix of demographics in every gathering?
Or do we really want DIVERSITY OF THOUGHT AND LIFE EXPERIENCE?
Isn’t it racist and bigoted to assume you get real diversity by judging attendee skin color, ethnicity, or sex?
(I know, I’m being a little sarcastic by pretending to not know what THEY mean by “diversity.”)
They mean the special darlings du jour, while others get frozen out.
When you spend your days writing the code that simulates the effect of somebody getting shot, and lets young people spend hours in simulated battle how is it that a little dancing is bothersome?
“...were greeted by women dancing on platforms...”
So, women shouldn’t be dancing?
How...Islamic.
