North Korea's supreme court sentenced American student Otto Warmbier to 15 years of hard labor for crimes against the state, China's Xinhua news agency reported on Wednesday.

Warmbier, a University of Virginia student, was detained by the North in January for trying to steal an item bearing a propaganda slogan from his hotel in Pyongyang and had confessed to crimes against the state, North Korean media said previously.

Here is the State Department travel warning for North Korea:

A similar warning has been in place for many years.

“Kid is no innocent and will serve to remind other stupid kids that other countries don’t just slap you on the wrist like in the US.”

Every year, several students from the local state university are jailed in Europe, usually for drug-law violations, while on a study-abroad trip. This happens despite repeated warnings from the university that (1) some countries in Europe have tougher drug laws than we have in the US, despite perceptions to the contrary; (2) neither the university nor the US embassy has a “get out of jail free” card that can be used in such cases.

Rastus: I’ve seen pictures of some really hot female North Korean soldiers.

redfreedom:Personally, I prefer the hot Russian soldiers. Some of those girls are just outright beautiful.

I think we need to examine some of the evidence:

"I’ve seen pictures of some really hot female North Korean soldiers."

The really hot ones direct traffic. Seriously. It's sort of become a running joke.

So his family is in real bad financial trouble so he takes a vacation half way across the world?

He has a bright future in Congress with that kind of logic.

I do feel sorry for this stupid ass. He doesn't stand a chance. He certainly doesn't appear to be tough enough to survive 15 years of "hard labor" in a North Korean concentration camp.

He'll never leave that camp alive; they'll work him to death, if he doesn't die from torture, disease or malnutrition. The fact that this is something of a self inflicted wound doesn't mitigate the horror of his situation.

You can get them on eBay but a bit expensive.

If little junior wants pot, he gets it, if he wants to smoke, that’s OK, if he wants to be a homo, that’s good too. It all started in the 90’s when schools, social services and the government put more pressure on parents to improve kids self esteem.

I know a family whose 16-year old daughter wants to become a boy, and to my knowledge the parents are doing nothing to stop her. She is preparing to be mutilated in order to 'change' her gender. Everyone is supporting her disastrous decision. The poor child needs psychiatric help badly, but the psychiatrists are also crazy and believe this is the most normal thing in the world.
