Hundreds of Chicago factory workers who are fighting to keep their jobs in the US received a visit from Hillary Clinton on Monday, the day before a tightly contested Democratic primary in Illinois.
It is imperative that we do more to keep jobs here, and we do more to attract jobs to places like Chicago, well, really across our country, Clinton said after the meeting.
Last summer, Mondelēz International, the multinational food and beverages group and owner of Nabisco, announced that the companys factory on Chicagos South Side would be cutting 600 jobs and transferring production to new facilities in Monterrey and Salinas, Mexico. I wanted to come by and talk with some of the workers and their representatives to ... figure out how we can stop this, Clinton said.
According to the Bakery, Confectionery, Tobacco Workers and Grain Millers Union, who represent many of the plants employees, nearly 70% of the workers affected are black or Latino. The first of the workers to be laid off received notice in January, leaving others in the plant on edge fearing that they will be next.
They dont treat us like they used to treat us. They treat us like were nobody, said Cristina Ramirez, a longtime employee in the factory. Ramirez said that many people in the plant feel like they are just waiting for the other shoe to drop. Were just going to keep doing the best we can do as long as we can, Ramirez said.
Ramirez, who has worked at the South Side bakery for 32 years, is a third generation Nabisco employee, with her mother and grandmother both having worked at the factory going back over half a century.

The presumptive democrat nominee is going to ask the employees what to do?
I wonder if the employees might have been looking for answers instead.
Unfortunately, to folks like Hillary that "do more" means impose more taxes and more regulations.
Maybe she’s going to encourage them to become prison guards when they lose their jobs—and tell them they can be blessed by being her personal servants when she’s in the pen.
The union brought this on it’s members. The union donates to democrats, democrats increase taxes and regulations, demand ever increasing wages.
Hillary can do nothing because the trade agreements are designed to redistribute our nations wealth to 3rd world country via jobs. Republicans are of course in bed with them on this.
High taxes and crushing regulations are causing the US to continue to bleed jobs. I know what will fix it! Let’s make the minimum wage $15 an hour!
Empty words from a lying bitch.
If there was any justice in America, Hillary Clinton would be in prison.
I’ll give up anything in the pic-——except Triscuits.
Yum.
.
Here’s the thing....if you wanted US-made Oreo cookies....and covered all the health-care costs, union cost, social security....then a $3.68 box would instead cost at least $4.00 a box (maybe even on up to $4.50). Would you pay that much for a box of US Oreos?
Maybe she should ask the owners instead.
Naaaa!
Someone should point out that these job losses are a DIRECT result of Bubba Clinton's progressive policies (and kickbacks) from NAFTA.
Yes. I don’t think the Democrats have a clue on how to actually keep jobs in the USA, and the GOPe seems pretty low on ideas, too. Donald Trump appears to be the only candidate with a clue in that regard.
“Cookies and junk food are bad for you and make you fat. You should seek employment elsewhere. Now that your factory is closing, you’ll have the opportunity to do the right thing.”
While wagging a scolding finger, Hillary connects with ordinary folks.
;^)
“...the Bakery, Confectionery, Tobacco Workers and Grain Millers Union...”
Hmmmm....I do believe that these are the same people who were pissing in our cereal at the Kellog’s plant. Not sure that I’d want to be talking to them. Mexico is bad. Unions are worse.
THey all can’t stand Trump but they all pull the ‘me too’ campaign tactic. Pathetic.
I avoid Oreos because of the rainbow pride Oreo campaign. I know. It’s petty to act that way over a sodomy affirming ad, but it just got under my skin. I was very fond of Oreos before that ad. Same thing with Lucky Charms. Now I avoid both.

I may or may not agree with a particular ad campaign, and I might not even act consistently toward companies who push the gay agenda. However, when I’m making buying choices, gay advocacy tends to drive my business elsewhere. There are other dessert options than Oreos.
It was Clinton that signed NAFTA. She is insufferable
Yeah. Trump will raise the oreo tarif so that our $4-a-box oreos will still be cheaper than the foreign competitor’s.
I am waiting for Nabisco to announce a price reduction on Oreos now that they are made in Mexico and production costs have gone down. /sarc
