Obama points finger at Britain, France over Libya chaos
Published March 11, 2016 FoxNews.com
President Barack Obama has strongly criticized the leaders of Great Britain and France for their policy toward Libya after the 2011 overthrow of dictator Muammar Qaddafi, saying that he was mistaken to believe the U.S.' European allies would be "more invested in the follow-up" to Qaddafi's fall.
Obama made the remarks in an interview with The Atlantic magazine. The criticisms of British Prime Minister David Cameron, in particular, are some of the strongest of a sitting U.K. leader by a sitting president.
In the interview, Obama calls the situation in Libya a "mess" in part because he says Cameron became "distracted by a range of other things."
"When I go back and I ask myself what went wrong, there's room for criticism, because I had more faith in the Europeans," Obama says.
The president also criticized then-French President Nicolas Sarkozy for being too eager to take credit for the intervention that overthrow Qaddafi, who was killed by rebel forces in October 2011.
"Sarkozy wanted to trumpet the flights he was taking in the air campaign," Obama said, "despite the fact that [the U.S.] had wiped out all the air defences and essentially set up the entire infrastructure."
Obama also said that he had warned Cameron that the so-called "special relationship" between Britain and the U.S. would end if the London government did not commit to spending 2 percent of its GDP on defense.
"Free riders aggravate me," Obama says at one point in the interview.
A spokeswoman for Cameron told Sky News that the prime minister still believes intervention in Libya was "absolutely the right thing to do." ----> Continued

Lets us not forget the Repubnlican neocons like Rubio, McCain and Graham who were gung ho for Libya and Arab Spring overthrowing regimes of stability. It’s a uni-party thing to want all these overseas wars that no one dares talk about but Trump (and maybe paradoxically Rand Paul)
These neocons are very dangerous....they support liberal fascists like Obama and Hitlery.
Gadaffi was a US ally who had clearly recanted from his old ways and was a supporter of the USA against the jihadists recruiters of Eastern Libya. Gadaffi mowed down the jihadists in great swaths and put them away into trenches. That’s why Obama wanted Gadaffi ousted, he was far too effective against the Muslim Brotherhood that sought dominance in Libya, Sudan and Egypt.
Obama failed, and he failed treasonously. Obama failed miserably as he should have done in betraying US allies in Libya and Egypt.
Obama owns that. pointing his finger at Britain and Europe will do him no good. Obama will go down in history as the worst leader of any Western nation in the modern post WWII era.
I think Obama was earnestly opposed to any international intervention, until his handlers sat him down and explained to him why he was elected (and who made it possible). He then morphed from a champion of downtrodden black who opposed “gay marriage” to a champion of “gay marriage” who watched blacks sink even further.
Ferguson/Baltimore were indications that “black America” knew they meant nothing to him.
Yep.
thus guy is constantly surrounded by disasters, but it’s always someone else’s fault. you’d think he would figure it out sooner or later.
“When I go back and I ask myself what went wrong, there’s room for criticism, because I had more faith in the Europeans,”
Dude, even the Europeans don’t have faith in the Europeans. That’s why it doesn’t pay to even ask them what they think, unless you’ve already decided to do the opposite.
Fidel Castro will not die. His real name is R. Daneel Olivaw.
