The wary interest in Cruz from more mainstream Republicans is the latest unexpected twist in a GOP race where talk of a contested convention or third-party candidate is becoming commonplace.
If Teds the alternative to Trump, hes at least a Republican and conservative, South Carolina Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-SC) said. While Graham made sure to note that its not like I prefer Ted Cruz, he encouraged Rubio and Ohio Gov. John Kasich to decide among themselves whether they can be a realistic alternative to Trump.
Mitt Romney, the 2012 GOP presidential nominee, said Cruz is indeed emerging as the chief anti-Trump candidate.
I think a lot of people were surprised by how well Ted Cruz did, said Romney, who has thrust himself back into the political discussion with a searing takedown of Trump in a speech last week.
Romney has stepped back into the spotlight at a moment of crisis and chaos for the Republican Party. Leaders in Washington who assumed hard-liners such as Cruz represented a minority view have been left wondering if theyre the ones out of step with voters.
For months, GOP elites have lumped Trump and Cruz together, arguing that neither could win in Novembers general election. Cruz is an uncompromising conservative who has publicly criticized party leaders, including Senate Majority Leader Sen. Mitch McConnell (R-KY), for what he sees as a pattern of giving in too easily to President Barack Obama.

Are you saying it's a good thing for the GOP to line up behind Cruz?
“if Trump will pick Cruz to be his running mate and Cruz gives Trump his delegates at the convention.”

Cruz supporters (not saying you’re one) like to hang at least one of their hats on the thought, or fact, that Cruz is one of the most hated and feared men in DC.
That visceral hatred is why Cruz can’t run for VP, and I doubt Trump will have him.
It isnt a question of whether or not he is a Natural Born Citizen. Its the absolute certainty of a lawsuit engineered by the very people Cruz and his supporters use as one of the selling points for his conservative authenticity will tie the Republican efforts up in court.
Trump has said a number of times in his campaign that he isn’t taking any chances, and he won’t take a chance on this either.
Cruz is one of the most hated men in Washington, but he is the second most favorite man in the Primaries. Right?
Freepers are very into being into Freepers. Their theory on membership is that you can’t be a member unless you’ve been a member for ten years. Nice plan to grow. Being a Seahawk (no such thing as a seahawk by the way) fan tells me all that I need to know.
OK, if you say so.
I’m not sure what that has to do with what I posted.
It's more about long-term vetting. People can be reasonably assured my intentions are good for the forum and generally conservative. That said, I'm a Trump fan too.
You certainly cannot deny the fact that there are a large number of Trumpites that joined FR in the July-December 2015 time period compared to Cruz supports.
I have come to only respond to the article. Don’t bother posting replies to individuals.
Not on immigration, at least not a deal they're willing to accept. Before Trump amnesty was just a matter of time. Trump moved the debate so far to the right that any deal will be a defeat for the globalists. Amnesty is their number one priority, because it enables the rest of their leftist agenda. No amnesty and we could see America moving to the right for the first time since Reagan.
That's why they're not ready to get on board the Trump train. But some of the GOPe's hacks will eventually. They're not all principled globalists. Some of them are just in it for the perks, and Trump can and will buy them off.
It would not ever have occurred to me to look, or after having looked, care.
“Duke or Romney or whomever who sua sponte decides to support a given candidate is not the fault of said candidate.”
Well why didn’t you say that the first doggone time?
Just kidding. Thanks for clarifying.
