Graham: Brokered Convention Would Be Unfair To Trump [AUDIO]

An an interview with CNN’s David Axelrod, South Carolina Sen. Lindsey Graham said that a brokered convention would not be fair to Republican front-runner Donald Trump.

A brokered convention could happen if Trump fails to reach the 1,237 delegates needed to secure the nomination on the first ballot of delegate voting. Delegates are not bound to vote according to their states’ preference after the first ballot and could conceivably switch their vote to a candidate other than Trump.

“If he got two thirds of what he needs, which I think he’s well on his way to doing — for us to steal from him is not going to help the party,” Graham told Axelrod’s “Axe Files” podcast.

If we don’t send them money, then we are not part of the problem.

Graham is saying that if Trump gets 2/3 of the total required (825), the GOP will not deny him the nomination.

The whole damn party is insane, but Linda has it right.

McCain is bound to set him straight by day’s end.

Ha! They just realized that if they push for a brokered convention it becomes “Dealing for Delegates” and that’s right square in Trumps wheelhouse!

Establishment would rather have Trump than Cruz. To people like Graham Trump is just a clown but Cruz is evil

Yep. I agree with that. Trump is an embarrassment but if he wins he wins. GOPe really can't do much about it. If Trump keeps up this winning streak then I suspect many party types will grudgingly come around to supporting him or staying neutral.

You beat me to it. If Trump shows up with only 825, approx. 1/3 of the total delegates, that means that 2/3 thirds of the voters don’t support him. Why should he have any special preference or consideration at the convention? Lindsey is really stumbling around here, he is still a loser.

‘Establishment would rather have Trump than Cruz.’

Lindsey Graham: “you know, Ted Cruz is not my favorite by any means. I don’t wish him ill. I made a joke about Ted but we may be in a position where we have to rally around Ted Cruz as the only way to stop Trump and I’m not so sure that would work.”

No, Graham said himself he’d prefer Cruz. That’s why the article is titled, ‘It May be Time to Rally Around Cruz’ (as the only way to stop Trump).
