One recalls Barry Goldwaters historic wipeout in 1964. But, in 1966, Republicans made the greatest gains in a generation, and went on to win the presidency for 20 of the next 24 years.True. But it's also true that America is considerably more socialist now than it was 50 years, ago, despite Reagan.

"it will trash the GOP brand" Did I read that right? You are concerned about a brand?
Rat poison that says "Gerber's Babies Food" and you would stop anyone from telling America what's inside to save the brand?
Maybe I read that wrong. Surely your not employed by the GOP in some way.

I was addressing a specific scenario raised by Pat Buchanan.
If Trump is elected President as a Republican, and if he does a crappy job, then the voters are not going to turn right around and give the office to a different Republican. They'll give it to a Democrat.
If you think saying that makes me some kind of party stooge, you need some medication.
To: sourcery
Exactly. We are not at the point where we can afford a screw up that (again, going with Buchanan's scenario) puts one left winger in office, then follows him with another.
The Republic is too far gone for that.

If you’ve got Buchannan, Palin, Jerry Falwell Jr, and Sen. Sessions - you’ve got a pretty darned big cross section of the conservative movement, from movement conservatives to mavericks, evangelicals to hardliners.

Just reacting to use of the word '
brand' ... it's not often used by those who don't think in terms of ... well ... branding ... if I misunderstood what you were saying, which it sounds like you're saying I did, then I happily take it back, or at least take back directing negativity towards you.
The point is, the so called 'brand' is an outright lie. There is no 'GOP' inside that Gerber Baby Food jar, there is poison. Trump would be wise be to un-enroll from the GOP the day he's elected. I really think it's time to put that thing out of it's misery ... the 'brand.'
But if I falsely took you for a brand-rep ... well, I still disagree with much worth in it. If the country is lost, it will be over the next 8 years. What follows is immaterial. If the electorate goes Dem for the next 8 years, it's over, brand won't matter at all.

Whether it is good or bad, there "GOP" is basically a brand name. As is "Democratic Party". If the goal is to get rid of the GOP brandname entirely, hen Trump should have run as an independent. But he chose not to, and I assume he had his reasona
Therefore, if you like him, and he's running as a Republican, than it would seem to behoove both of you to improve that brand name as much as possible.

Why call them “establishment”. Why not call them what they are? Call them GOP Left. They are leftist in their perspectives, and their pursuits.
Calling them other than what they are is aiding, and abetting their disguise.

I’ll believe it when I see it.
IMO Trump is just another Crony Capitalist Globalist who wants to take out another clique of Crony Capitalist Globalists.
If anything, 2010 and 2014 should have taught everyone that the political system is not going to bring any real change.

Folks, if you're reading this, you know what needs to happen.
It doesn't take a big contribution. Pick your comfort level and
please join others to help put the FReepathon to rest. Thank you.
The above note was first presented to you on 02/25 at around 11:00.
The goal shortfall at that time is depicted to you on the left.
The graphic on the right reveals our status as of 02/26 22:30.
We can finish this quickly. Let's do it.
Let's give Jim, his crew, and us a full month to rest up.
Jim, his crew, and every other FReeper thanks you.

I was anti Trump, but I have come to realize what do we really have to lose? Obama has done more harm to this nation than any President since FDR......It is all down hill from here unless whoever becomes President tackles the big fiscal issues 20 Trillion national debt by the Inauguration, economy in the tank taxes going up, up, up, the trajectory is untenable there will be a reckoning.
