Pat Buchanan: Regardless of nominee, Donald Trump surge marks 'death rattle' of establishment

...

We hear wails that the nomination of Trump would mean the end of the conservative movement. But how so?

If Trump won and conducted a conservative government, it would validate the movement. If Trump won and turned left, it would inspire an insurgency like Ronald Reagan’s in 1976, when the Ford-Rockefeller-Kissinger administration moved too far toward detente.

If Trump ran and lost, the conservative movement would have President Clinton to unite and rally the troops against.

One recalls Barry Goldwater’s historic wipeout in 1964. But, in 1966, Republicans made the greatest gains in a generation, and went on to win the presidency for 20 of the next 24 years.

Undeniably, a Trump presidency would mean an end to the Bush and establishment policies on trade, immigration and intervention.

He looks like he’s hoping Rubio will invite him to a foam party. /sarc>
Actually, he looks like a far less successful, far less athletic Aaron Rodgers...

Problem with Buchanan’s analysis is that demographics now are completely different from the time of Reagan’s surge in popularity and influence. A Hillary win against Trump will not be close and the Senate, maybe the House and a good number of state contests are lost. Even if he wins, Tump would never govern using conservative principles. He has been a monarch all of his business life and would govern in the same manner as Barky has done. With no regard for Constitutional governance. While this would anger those conservatives who would have voted for Trump, that style of governance will find acceptance among Progressives, Socialists, and especially Latinos, whose desire for the alcalde/caudillo type of goverance was ingrained in larin psyches by seven centuries of Muslim rule of Iberia. This demographic’s influence will be accelerated by a Trump candidacy. So Trump will, win or lose, not lead to a conservative ascendancy.

It really comes down to one thing after a Trump victory thatnwill “seal the deal” for the next 12 years - the economy.

Not saying it is the only thing, obviously the other two are illegal immigration and terrorism.

But the citizens and middle class have been suffering and drowning in stagnation for so long, if Trump gets the economy and jobs and 401k’s going in two years the gratitude will be so great that the Republicans will own the Presidency and Congress for a decade or more, all the while Trump will turn the tables on the Democrats regarding immigration and the invasion of the underclass illiterate Demucrat voters:

* a 4% fee will be placed on any dollars sent out of country to South of the Border - that is how Mexico pays for the wall

* there is nothing in the Constitution that says there are nine justices on the Supreme Court - Congress sets the number, it will be increased to 11 and Trump nominates 3 more, stacking the court

* Trump will increase those immigrating in from Europe into US, cut off illegal immigration

“The powers that be will be GONE!”

And the beauty is Trump is going to take so many votes from the Democrats as well, they will be as reduced as the GOP eys.

One big coalition with two shattered groups of elites left on the outside.

I have come to realize what do we really have to lose?

Exactly.

Newsflash: The GOPe HATES us. They truly hate the conservative base. Electing their choice of Republican (Rubio, Bush, whoever) is just asking for more of the same.

I don't have a problem with Cruz, but I fear that he would come under the thrall of the GOPe donating class, and the end result would be the same as if we had elected Rubio or Bush. Therefore, Trump is the only rational alternative.

That ship has sailed. The GOP brand is already trashed. Let the re-branding commence.

"trade, immigration and intervention"

The 3 principal issues of this GOP campaign.

And, of course, the Republican party is on the wrong side of all 3, and has been for decades.

And the "Conservative Movement" is embodied in the Republican party.

The Conservative Movement aka Conservative Orthodoxy is a dirty whore and she's about to receive her public shaming and exile.

That's just gibberish in the context of the point. Whatever the brand is worth (54 Senate seats by my count), Trump has chosen to run under that brand rather than as an independent. If he does well as President, it will help the brand. If he does poorly, it will hurt it.

Not sure how/why anyone would try to argue that point.

Skipping ahead of the "and conducted a conservative government" requirement are you?

Yes. Why not.  I mean, what in Der Trumpenflipper's behavioral history could possibly indicate a pattern of conservative thinking better than... his own flapping lips?

The more they yell “Racist!”

The more the voters yell “F_ _ _ You, now I am really voting for Trump!”

People are sick of the politically correct McCarthyism.

Trump may be the one to finally kill the reckless, dangerous and false charge of “racism” that is plaguing this nation.

I am happy to have any and all stay as long as they are willing to accept the nominee, just as I have so many times in the past. To Graham’s credit, he has said in the past that he will support the nominee, even if it is Trump. Now whether he proves that he can be believed...

A mostly ignored likelihood is what you said. Trump’s ascendancy will blow up the rats as well. They cannot sustain their anti-American posture and win against Trump and his acolytes. They will probably splinter into Green and Black parties.

And, McKook was pretty restrained yesterday on Fox. He seemed to indicate that they would get behind the nominee.

Rubio should put himself forward as the candidate of the neo-Republican Party. That will scatter the chickens.

The funny thing of it is, the e-GOP was thwarting the Tea Parties efforts to reform and reinvent the Party from within at every turn. They wanted to take it back to Reagan and they were too interested in the Slop in the Trough of K-Street.

So now an insurgent that is Putin that can build a high rise will remake it in his image.

To the Mitch McConnell's of the world ( who is really the face of the E-GOP ) how is that workin' out for ya.

This is metaphorically what the establishment has done to the GOP...https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZDBCiZKZi_g

>>True. But it’s also true that America is considerably more socialist now than it was 50 years, ago, despite Reagan.

Because Progressives move fast if they can or they might move slow if they have to, but they always move towards their goal. They don’t wait for “perfect”. They merely wait for opportunities. This is something that most conservatives need to learn. We’re always waiting for the “perfect” so we can make our big move and save the republic. Meanwhile, they just keep digging the foundation out from underneath.
