From Obama to Trump
The New York Times' Sunday Review ^ | February 27, 2016 | Ross Douthat

Posted on 02/28/2016 1:52:47 PM PST by 2ndDivisionVet

THE spectacle of the Republican Party's Trumpian meltdown has inspired a mix of glee and fear among liberals -- glee over their rivals' self-immolation, and fear that what arises from the destruction will be worse.

What it hasn't inspired is much in the way of self-examination, or a recognition of the way that Obama-era trends in liberal politics have helped feed the Trump phenomenon.

Such a recognition wouldn't require letting the Republican Party off the hook. The Trump uprising is first and foremost a Republican and conservative problem: There would be no Trumpism if George W. Bush's presidency hadn't cratered, no Trumpism if the party hadn't alternated between stoking and ignoring working-class grievances, no Trump as front-runner if the party leadership and his rivals had committed fully to stopping him before now.

But Trumpism is also a creature of the late Obama era, irrupting after eight years when a charismatic liberal president has dominated the cultural landscape and set the agenda for national debates. President Obama didn't give us Trump in any kind of Machiavellian or deliberate fashion. But it isn't an accident that this is the way the Obama era ends -- with a reality TV demagogue leading a populist, nationalist revolt....

Douthat joked about assassinating Trump.

Liberals’ objection to the Second Amendment is pure projection. Each one knows he or she can’t be trusted with a weapon, so they think no one can be trusted with a weapon.

Pardon me, Ross-but in addition to being clueless, you don’t proofread before printing do you? I believe the word you want is “erupting” not “irrupting”...

Whatever happens, I hope it is terrible for democrats.

They brought this entire era on us and themselves.

The Clintons brought a new level of greed, criminalityand low character to the White House so egregious that it would have
embarrassed Richard Nixon himself.

And democrats still loved them and protected them and still do to this day.

Then they spent 8 long years trashing George W. Bush just to discredit him in the eyes of the voters.

Yes, he should have fought back and put them in their place with a strong, firm hand.
But they were the garbage slingers promoting the hate and disunity, ripping the country apart for their own gain.

Then they rallied around a candidate (almost said ‘man’ there but caught myself) with no birth certificate, no experience, no honesty,
and no plan (other than Hope n’ Change and a determination to abuse the UIS Constitution) to actually do the things he promised.

Obama was, and is, so bad that he ushered in the present era which may well put Trump in the White House.

Once there he will roll back just about everything the democrats have gained with their criminal behavior over the last 24 years and
set their communist/socuialist, one-world movement back 50 years.

It couldn’t happen to a more deserving bunch of rabble rousers and criminals.

"charismatic liberal..."???

How about duplicitous, treacherous, fraudulent, dis-honorable and despicable race baiter. Obama and Obama's America is exactly why Donald Trump is who America wants today as a leader...all Americans, not just the GOP, just plain Americans who are fed up with frauds, mendacious, and disingenuous politicians....professors will be the next to fall for supporting and teaching socialism while demanding higher and higher pay then producing a product disloyal to their country, but demanding their "rights" or safe places on campus...what a bunch of utter babies!......

Having once campaigned against his predecessor’s power grabs, the current president has expanded executive authority along almost every dimension: launching wars without congressional approval, claiming the power to assassinate American citizens, and using every available end-around to make domestic policy without any support from Congress. In the process, he’s cut the legs from under principled liberal critiques of executive power, and weakened the American left’s role as a bulwark against Caesarism.

Ross Douthat is worried. Worried we'll turn the IRS on liberal groups when we're in power - - BECAUSE they're liberal... then deny it with laughter and name calling. We'll have OUR IRS thugs take the 5th while YOUR friends Ross, cower... Turn about's fair play... is that what you're worried about? That we'll be as thuggish as you guys have been?

Or maybe he's worried we'll call for 'common sense' restrictions on the First Amendment...Ahhh, that would be funny. Hey, Ross, how would you like that?

Or Ross could watch us make jokes about killing liberal candidates... Or better yet, we could sell secrets by leaving top secret stuff on unprotected servers and make fun of people who think it's a big deal.

That would be fun.

Oh Ross we would love to be - if just for a moment - the assh*les you liberals are... but we have more dignity than to fall to your level. It would be funn to tell you to rot in hell Ross...(or at least 'fear' we might say it ... or mean it - for a while.... Then we could make fun of you for being 'angry'. Take a poll about YOUR anger Ross...

And liberal elites? They're not elite - they've surrounded themselves with power and money they've stolen from the people of this county.. - they're 'elite' in the same sense a street pimp's 'elite'... only within his own subgroup. Sadly Ross you have nothing to fear from Trump or us.. we're not like you - and for that you can be thankful.

Tonight you're mine completely
You give your love so sweetly
Tonight the light of love is in your eyes
Will you still love me tomorrow?

Is this a lasting treasure
Or just a moment's pleasure?
Can I believe the magic of your sighs?
Will you still love me tomorrow?

Tonight with words unspoken
You say that I'm the only one
But will my heart be broken
When the night meets the morning sun?

I'd like to know that your love
Is love I can be sure of
So tell me now, and I won't ask again
Will you still love me tomorrow?

Actually, Ross Douthat is a conservative.

His joke about Twitter Trump being assassinated was stupid in the extreme. (Yes, I looked it up and watched the film clip.)

DFouthat's comments here are not slanted to help liberals, rather to blame them for pulling public policy so far in a globalist/cultural elitist/imperial presidency direction, that they paved the way for a guy like Trump who would blast in as the only nationalist hope.

“Beware of the man who needs to be flattered for he becomes a tyrant the first chance he gets.”

I also keep thinking of how Trump will look the other way when someone like Putin does dangerous things, because Putin fed Trump’s ego.

Trump is a loose cannon, so we never know.
