The NYT has always been a Dem mouthpiece. Before the Times, the leading New York paper was the Tribune, mouthpiece for the Republican Party. It achieved prominence under Horace Greeley, one of the founders of the GOP. Greeley’s paper also printed pieces by Karl Marx for years.
