About 4.6 percent of the men and women in Texas prisons are undocumented immigrants with standing requests that they be turned over to U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement when their sentences are served.
In December 2015, 9,158 Texas prisoners were under ICE detainers, and 6,698 of them were determined by ICE to be undocumented.
Among other findings in the data:
** Mexican nationals account for most of the inmates with ICE detainers. ICE determined that 78 percent of Mexican nationals in Texas prisons are undocumented.
** El Salvador and Honduras nationals account for the next greatest numbers of offenders with ICE detainers.
** Sexual assault against a child is the most common crime for inmates with ICE detainers.
** There are 595 offenders with ICE detainers who have life sentences, and 62 percent of those were determined to be in the country illegally.
** There are 1,875 undocumented inmates with sentences of 21 years or more, including life and death sentences.

This should be 0%. Any illegal immigrant we have in prison should be deported.
Any lawyer representing illegals under this program is ripe for immediate disbarment.

Super deceiving headline. They’re saying 5% have deport requests. They don’t say how many prisoners, they don’t say how many are illegal aliens.
Probably because they cut illegals loose instead of holding them for deportation, just like kalifornia.
If you locked up all of the illegals in texas, their economy would grind to a halt.
Every one of the bunch that came in last year and walked across the border uninvited was given “documents”.
“Super deceiving headline. They’re saying 5% have deport requests. They don’t say how many prisoners are illegal aliens.”
I agree.
Absolutely right. A minority of the illegals have detainees. The fact is that any foreigner in jail is still possibly illegal. They pretty well know which ones they are from their rap sheets.
Not if they committed a serious crime. Let them loose and they will just return to commit more crimes of the same nature. and why not. It’s as good as never getting caught for your crimes.
Bingo. It is even more deceiving when you take into account the numbers that are just let go because ICE isn’t interested in dealing with them. The fact is, that 5% is a large number because these are the ones who have committed crimes of a severe nature.
In my imaginary world where we would deport illegal immigrant felons we’d also have immigration policies that are vigorously enforced and a wall across the southern border. I know it’s fantasy but one can hope, right?
Texas Tribune contradicts their headline in the 1st paragraph, that must be some kind of record...
LOL, in that case deport them. Yes, hope is a good thing. Unfortunately I have lost my hope. Since Trump is the only one talking about it, I hope Trump becomes our 45th President.
Illegal immigrants accounted for 37% of federal sentences.
I surprised, surprised the numbers aren’t even higher. My guess is that when FY 2015 numbers come out the numbers will be higher.
This should be 0%. Any illegal immigrant we have in prison should be deported.

Depends on their crimes and if they’ve served their sentence. Drug, DUI, etc. - sure. Launch them. Serious victim crime? Make them serve. Mexico would just turn them out to reenter the US again.
Any criminal Ivan derived should be SHOT. Save the taxpayers the headache and send a message to the other invaders
