Oregon is trailblazing a national debate with a proposal that would not only make the state's minimum wage for all workers the highest in the U.S., but would do so through a unique tiered system based on geography. [...]
The proposal would start a series of gradual increases over six years: Oregon's current $9.25 an hour minimum - already one of the highest in the nation - would jump to $14.75 in metro Portland, $13.50 in smaller cities such as Salem and Eugene, and $12.50 in rural communities by 2022.
Those minimums would dethrone Massachusetts - where the statewide rate will climb to $11 an hour next year - from the top spot, according to D.C.-based Economic Policy Institute, which has been tracking wage increases across the nation. ...

Another state soon to learn that the true minimum wage is zero when you drive employers out of business.
That’s nice of them to pay for it out of their own pockets.
And when the economy craters, they’ll blame everyone else.
2. Public employee unions start to rise by lobbying like-minded politicians.
3. Politicians in the clutches of public employee unions start to raise the wages of non-union private employees.
Seems like we let the fox in the hen house.
Oregonians love craters...
Anyone here from Oregon? Anyone from Oregon remember voting for this?
They should have built a wall!!
Seriously, it is a great representation of what happens when liberals infest a population, not unlike allowing third worlders into a first class nation.
California at one time was by population conservative too.
its always a gradual increase!
Absurd micro-management of the economy.
What’s next, 5 year plan commissions in Bend and Eugene?
Cornpone Commissars.
I’ve been to Ashland half a dozen times. (from California). I remember seeing a bumper sticker “Don’t Fornicate Oregon.”
Same thing happened to Colorado and Austin, Texas.
LOL Don’t Californicate Oregon
They were actually saying it would be better to pass a more moderate minimum wage increase in the legislature, as the unions were pushing a $15 across the state minimum initiative. Now they won’t. Yea, right guys.
And yes, I’m in Oregon. I only hope the legislature is seriously over-reaching (gun control, carbon credit trading, etc., etc. - even a property tax increase!) & people will have enough & boot them out in November.
Not likely, but I can dream...
Small towns will die.
But that is their goal, and Leftists like to realize their goals.
Who is John Galt.
Yep, liberalism is our countries cancer....a mental disorder too.
Yes...from Oregon....looking at Idaho
