Donald Trump’s Campaign Pulls a Negative Ad on Ted Cruz [Trump going 'nice' in SC]
NYTimes ^ | 02/11/2016 | MAGGIE HABERMAN

On Tuesday, Donald J. Trump's campaign started running a negative ad in South Carolina against Senator Ted Cruz that was searing, describing the winner of the Iowa Republican caucuses as a fake and a "Washington insider."

The spot also scolded Mr. Cruz for his campaign's role in spreading claims that Ben Carson had suspended his campaign while the caucuses were taking place; Mr. Carson, in fact, had not ended his candidacy, and Mr. Cruz later apologized to him.

But on Wednesday the spot was abruptly pulled down by the campaign. The Wall Street Journal reported on the strategic shift, saying that Mr. Trump's campaign manager, Corey Lewandowski, had made the decision to go with all positive spots beginning on Thursday. Mr. Lewandowski made the decision after seeing that Mr. Trump's more positive-focused tone in New Hampshire appeared to help him at the end, according to The Journal.

Asked to confirm the Journal's account about only running positive spots going forward, Hope Hicks, a spokeswoman for Mr. Trump, said that is now the campaign's plan, although she did not elaborate on the reason for the change.

Makes sense. Trump is 6-8 points ahead of Cruz in SC today.

Better news is that Jeb is in 4th place and really stinking it up!

Well I can hope that our two anti-establishment candidates can come in 1 -2 from here on out.

Internal polling must have indicated that these ads were a big turn-off to South Carolinians. Now, if his staff can just keep him off Twitter. :-)

Smart.

A large contingent of conservatives and patriots support both Donald and Ted. Hurting one hurts the other, which is exactly what the establishment and their lapdog media wish to see happen.

Any mention of Trump comparing Carson to a child molester?

ALL campaigns need to target barney’s “get people together” campaign slogan and explain to the uneducated about the truth of who is going to pay for their freebies and that it is communism.

Rush talking about this now.

Trump came across as so presidential in the speech and interviews following his NH victory. So, Cruz goes negative in his SC ads, while Trump pulling his negative ads looks, well, presidential. Meanwhile those negative ads from Cruz just reinforce Cruz's image as a "do whatever it takes" campaigner in Iowa and with his aggressive campaign donation solicitations.

Check, but not checkmate, for Trump?

In a conservative highly evangelical state? Hmmmm.... sounds familiar.

That it took this long to realize that negative ads don't work...

Actually the reason they still do negative ads is because they DO work - it has been proven over and over again. Voters always say they don't like negative ads, and every election negative ads have an impact on how they vote.

“Trump is a meanie. They need to change that perception.”
******************************************************************

My perception, and the perception of a growing number of people, is that Trump has the personality and psyche of a member of a high school “mean girls clique” and behave and talks in their manner.

Trump is likely up by 15 to 20% in SC. Going positive works fine.

Trump needs to keep it simple.....

A foreign-born ineligible 1st term senator Harvard lawyer got us into this mess do we really need another one to get us out of it?
