GOP focus group describes Donald Trump as 'inevitable'

They like and are planning to vote for Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas). But most Republicans surveyed in a new focus group in South Carolina, the next state to vote in the GOP primary race, saw a Trump victory in the state as "inevitable." The focus group, conducted by Bloomberg Politics and the firm Purple Strategies, gave evidence of some of Trump's potential weaknesses in Southern states. The nominating contest will shift heavily there in the coming weeks, with South Carolina voting February 20 and many of the so-called SEC primary states voting March 1.

The voters in the focus group shared concerns about Trump's religiosity and his supposed crassness.

None of the 10 voters who participated believed Trump to be a religious person. Most raised their hands when Bloomberg's Mark Halperin asked whether they were troubled by that.

Halperin then played clips in which Trump used or mimicked profanity in numerous stump speeches. One woman buried her face in her hands.

"It's crass," she said. "It's not how you want your president to present" himself, she said.

Trump was not pleased that Halperin showed the group one example in which he mouthed the profanity:

.@MarkHalperin showed a focus group on @Morning_Joe me using a very bad word. I never said the word, left an open blank. Please apologize!

-- Donald J. Trump (@realDonaldTrump) February 11, 2016

Still, while all but one voter picked Cruz over Trump for their personal votes, the vast majority expected Trump to come out on top in next week's South Carolina primary.

It COULD be that secretly more are planning to vote for Trump-—which is why they think it’s “inevitable.”

Trump is a political force of nature and, though not unstoppable, is in a commanding position to win the GOP nomination. For all the talk about who among the governors and Senators who got 12 percent and 11 percent and 10 percent, Trump won more of the vote than Bush, Rubio, and Cruz combined in the NH slaughter of the GOPE thugs/punks.

If Trump wins, what does the “Conservative Media Establishment” like NRO, Erick Erickson et al do? Mass retirements?

This is exactly what I have been saying: Republicans in NC and SC don’t generally like rude, crude and crass behavior.

Politeness matters in the South. Having known and lived in both states, I can say that Republicans from many different factions that I know agree with what I am saying.

It’s a definite vulnerability that I hope the Cruz campaign highlights..!

The thing Trump has done that no one has done in a few decades is get his message out despite the 24/7 news cycle. It’s been our Achilles heel since Reagan. Our guys get pummeled and mis-characterized each time out, but Trump ignores the BS and goes around them to get information to the voters. It’s a combination of timidity and lack of communication abilities that has caused it, and our side is paralyzed because of it. This campaign breaks all the traditional limitations.

You are correct, and Trump got FAUX, ABCCNNBCBS to get his non pc messages out for free.

I am a Trump supporter.

I do not believe in the ability of a group (so-called focus group) to picture the entire voting body it is supposed to reflect.

It is essentially a sample size of about a dozen people.

More than anything, they are manipulation tools used by those with an agenda. There is no way that a dozen people can be representative of a state.

“If Trump wins, what does the “Conservative Media Establishment” like NRO, Erick Erickson et al do? Mass retirements?”

One can only hope! These a$$holes have been the instrument by which the GOPe has kept control of the Republican Party. And it’s not about “conservatism!” It’s about the systematic disenfranchisement of “conservative voters” by people for whom procaiming conservatism is just a mechanism to dupe good, but uninformed people.

...It COULD be that secretly more are planning to vote for Trump-—which is why they think it’s “inevitable.”
That could explain why there were no DT supporters in the 10. Ten isn’t many.
I am southern and never based a vote on religion or abortion - abortion is a nonstarter for me, nothing a president can do bout RVW. I used to promote and defend DT as those who have researched my posting history know. When he mocked the disabled and lied about it he lost me. The continued Alinsky on all on the right who disagreed with him appalled me. His increase in swearing to Effing and P word appalled me. I don’t believe anything DT campaigns on because I see absolutely no foundation on which to trust him other than he says to.
Southern values are not NY values, religion or not.
Here is another confession for all you trumpees to laugh at: Cruz has brought me back closer to God. It is a funny side effect even to me but I am so thankful for it.

I used to set up focus groups and trust me, they are hand picked according to the criteria asked them. They have to answer the questions according to a survey, and then and only then are they selected to be in a group. People put too much stock in these phony focus groups.

The Media (and the journos) IS the liberal dem party. The DNC are merely their political wing.

Good points and exactly why he has so much appeal even though perhaps many realize he is not a ‘pure’ conservative in same was a Cruz for example. (whatever this is!). The way he fights the media and stands up for himself against some really despicable people is telling. I really hope he pulls through, because that is exactly what it is going to take to get things done. Otherwise it will be more of the same - and worse.

Anyone who has done any math at all should realize you can’t find a dozen people who are representative of an entire state.

I can’t find a dozen people representative of a single church or school. It’s just a crazy notion that should be obviously, like you say, PHONY.

Thanks, Catsrus

$crew the Trump Haters/GOPe pundits owned by the Open Borders Elite.

Many of us are looking forward to seeing the broken bones, drying blood and entrails of the Lying GOP Open Borders Elite, their DC faux conservative pundits, their mediots, their phoney pollers and focus groups, their hired tv and radio hacks strewn across the primary states as much as our victories in those states.

The Trump Tornado will destroy what is left of the GOPe pundits/mediots in DC, after he is sworn in January 2017.
