Carson staying in race, sees South Carolina victory
CNN ^ | February 10, 2016 | Tom LoBianco

Ben Carson said Wednesday he will be staying in the Republican race, despite a poor showing in New Hampshire, and is hoping to win big in South Carolina.

"I'm not getting any pressure from our millions of supporters (to leave the race). I'm getting a lot of pressure to make sure I stay in the race," Carson told CNN's Jake Tapper on "The Lead." "You know, they're reminding me that I'm here because I responded to their imploring me to get involved. And I respect that and I'm not just going to walk away from the millions of people who are supporting me."

But Carson, who at one point attracted strong support from evangelical voters, said he expected to do well in South Carolina.

"I think I can win South Carolina. We're going to be putting a lot of time resources and effort here," Carson said.

Carson also downplayed his New Hampshire loss, saying he decided not to focus there on purpose.

"We didn't spend nearly as much money in New Hampshire as many others," Carson said. "We didn't spend anywhere near millions of dollars there, recognizing there were certain things that were going to happen there. So you have to pick your battles very carefully. We're doing just fine, people will continue to support us, we will move forward."

“A few months ago, when Donald Trump referred to Carson as pathological and compared him to a child molester, Carson had nothing to say. He was completely impotent. And in fact, his numbers tanked shortly thereafter.

Don’t blame Cruz.”

Carson wrote, “I had what I only can label a pathological temper - a disease - and this sickness controlled me, making me totally irrational.”

Trump compared the condition to that of a child molester.

Any dip in the polls may have come from Trump’s comments. It’s equally likely it was Carson’s embellishments of a “scholarship to West Point” which got much more coverage in the press.

But none of that has anything to do with Iowa which Carson blames squarely on Cruz, and would motivate him to stay in to split evangelical votes in SC.

NH is not South Carolina. It doesn’t have a large black vote or those who vote on religious principles. That’s why I was wondering if Dr. Carson might get a sympathy vote in South Carolina.

I think both of those will work for Carson in SC.
I expect he will mostly take votes from Cruz and Rubio.

“So who do you suggest should “Gong Show” the losers out of the primaries?”

Themselves, if they had any self respect and the best interests of the party and the country at heart, instead of their own self-aggrandizement.

A misunderstanding? Surely you jest.

Regardless of how people here on this site see Ben, he actually does have people who are pushing him to stay in - for what reason, I’m sure there are many theories.

I’m happy he is, taking more votes from the GOPe is always a good thing.

Ben Carson ... a man that I once genuinely respected ...

I now consider Ben Carson a far worse example of an "I'm black and entitled to a free lunch" attitude than Herman Cain in 2012 ...

Let me be clear (Marco Rubio's often-used phrase) ... Ben Carson has been on an EXTENDED book tour since he announced for President.

And the idea that Donald Trump ... or Mickey Mouse ... would be stupid enough to ask Ben "Egyptian Pyramids" Carson to even SERVE in his-her administration is DELUSIONAL.

Good Dr. Ben Carson is simply for sale, like a whore in a cheap dress at Woolworth ...
