“Conservatives” receive a large number of these checks. Many people on this board are recipients.

The problem with our government is that nobody, no matter what the political persuasion, truly understands that “their” check is part of the problem. It’s always someone elses check.

Government will not get smaller until the checks stop.

Quite. We all know that SNAP, TANF, WIC, Section 8 Housing, Medicaid etc are socialism. Those are easy to oppose. Trouble is, Social Security and Medicare are ALSO Socialism ... and we're ALL caught up in that mess to some extent, whether we're currently being ripped off for it, or currently getting the checks. THAT has to end.

If you notice, the biggest jumps historically come from periods with a "centrist" republican in the White House...

At least when there's a tax and spend democrat in the white house, congress can rally some opposition, excepting the current castrated congressional leadership.

“THAT has to end.”

It’s much more than that, but you’re off to a good start.

You have to also include those who make a livelihood out of big government, directly and indirectly.

Prosperity comes from hard work and enterprise, not getting paid to take from one and give to another. Not from greasing palms of regulators. Not from cronyism. Not from being a federal employee.

Nobody, not liberal, not conservative will vote down “their” checks.

“””Trouble is, Social Security and Medicare are ALSO Socialism .””””

I paid into the SS fund for over 40 years. Since I was self employed I paid the employers part as well. SS is not a handout. It is an entitlement. I am entitled to the money because I PAID for it. I will only get back a fraction of what they stole from me.

And this is where efforts to reign in government stops. “they OWE me, it’s MY money” is always the refrain, followed by “look at THEIR check - cut their check before looking at mine”.

We will never be able to politically reform the growth of government. It has to go broke, and the checks simply have to stop - either literally or through runaway inflation.

That’s the only way.

This is why the uni-party will never permit a “government shutdown” again.

Apparently you don’t know what SS is. The government said they would steal money from me every week. They would put it away and then give some of it back to me when I retired. It is not their money, it is MY money. It is not a handout. It is my money. I want it back.

I earned my military pension, bub. I also contributed to social security against my will since 1964. I am now getting my money back, one hell of a lot less than if I had been allowed to opt out of that Ponzi Scheme!

Stick with the wellfare, food stamps and other gimmedat crap.

I must have missed that opt-out option back in 1964 when I was first required to have money witheld for SSI.

Bingo. It’s a Ponzi tax. No more than another illegal, unconstitutional program.

Funny though, those of the Gen X+, IMO, are the only ones whom look upon that program and go, “It ain’t there now, it won’t BE there come our time.”. The older gens? “Give me what’s ‘mine’”.

How ‘bout we ALL take the hit, yank govt out of the mix, and begin to follow A1S8 and the 5th?

I’m not receiving any checks for anything yet, but I would be happy if I could have all my EE and ER SS and MEDI deductions tucked into a 401K or IRA but that didn’t happen did it? I did save some on my own but that was in addition to the money that was extorted from me. That money was forcibly taken from people so I don’t see how you can call them welfare recipients when they finally get some of it back.
