A moving reminiscence, but one no longer admired by the American people
Compare your neighbors with my Amish ones.Last years I got backed up on hay baling and asked them if they would come over and help me.They said sure, and worked hard all afternoon. When I offered to pay them they turned down the money. They said that’s what neighbors do for each other.
I said, âWelcome to Conservatism.â
* * *
What a great story!!
Good point: the American people want big government to tax their “rich friends” to pay for what everyone else “needs”.
Do most Amish vote? I wound imagine that Amish women probably do not vote, right?
Reports like these, whether true or not, constantly repeated are eventually believed. This report reflects one of the reasons the left has achieved almost total control over all aspects of our society. Always note the left moves like a choreographed ballet when promulgating one of their “beliefs.”
I recently asked my neighbors’ little girl what she wanted to be when she grows up. She said she wanted to be President some day. Both of her parents, are liberal Democrats, were standing there, so I asked her, ‘If you were President what would be the first thing you would do?’
She replied, ‘I’d give food and houses to all the homeless people.’
Her parents beamed with pride.
’Wow…what a worthy goal.’ I told her, ‘But you don’t have to wait until you’re President to do that! You can come over to my house and mow the lawn, pull weeds, and sweep my yard, and I’ll pay you $50. Then I’ll take you over to the grocery store where the homeless guy hangs out, and you can give him the $50 to use toward food and a new house.‘
She thought that over for a few seconds, then she looked me straight in the eye and asked, ’ Why doesn’t the homeless guy come over and do the work, and you can just pay him the $50? ‘
I said, ‘Welcome to Conservatism.’
Her parents still aren’t speaking to me.
A young woman was about to finish her first year of college. Like so many others her age, she considered herself to be very liberal, and among other liberal ideals, was very much in favor of higher taxes to support more government programs, in other words redistribution of wealth.
She was deeply ashamed that her father was a rather staunch conservative, a feeling she openly expressed. Based on the lectures that she had participated in, and the occasional chat with a professor, she felt that her father had for years harbored an evil, selfish desire to keep what he thought should be his.
One day she was challenging her father on his opposition to higher taxes on the rich and the need for more government programs. The self-professed objectivity proclaimed by her professors had to be the truth and she indicated so to her father. He responded by asking how she was doing in school.
Taken aback, she answered rather haughtily that she had a 4.0 GPA, and let him know that it was tough to maintain, insisting that she was taking a very difficult course load and was constantly studying, which left her no time to go out and party like other people she knew. She didn’t even have time for a boyfriend, and didn’t really have many college friends because she spent all her time studying.
Her father listened and then asked, “How is your friend Audrey doing?” She replied, “Audrey is barely getting by. All she takes are easy classes, she never studies and she barely has a 2.0 GPA. She is so popular on campus; college for her is a blast. She’s always invited to all the parties and lots of times she doesn’t even show up for classes because she’s too hung over.”
Her wise father asked his daughter, “Why don’t you go to the Dean’s office and ask him to deduct 1.0 off your GPA and give it to your friend who only has a 2.0. That way you will both have a 3.0 GPA and certainly that would be a fair and equal distribution of GPA.”
The daughter, visibly shocked by her father’s suggestion, angrily fired back, “That’s a crazy idea, how would that be fair! I’ve worked really hard for my grades! I’ve invested a lot of time, and a lot of hard work! Audrey has done next to nothing toward her degree. She played while I worked my tail off!”
The father slowly smiled, winked and said gently, “Welcome to the conservative side of the fence.”
Only a few vote, and then mostly in local elections.I don’t know about the Amish ladies voting, but I do know that their husbands are very devoted to their wives.I don’t know of any prohibition against the ladies voting.
[[If she blamed her theft on her brother, said she was a victim of a patriarchy, then went out drinking with a bunch of arab men and got raped and then blamed the Jews, then sheâs a Democrat.]]
Sad but so true
Lol - when my grandson (4 yo) was handed his first trophy for t-ball, he looked at it sourly and said, “what’s this for, we didn’t win anything.”
That is so good!
Another version of this story would be to have the Dad tell the daughter that wealth distribution is indeed a good idea.
So instead of the two grand a month support she is getting from home, he is cutting her off at only $500 per month. The other fifteen hundred is being redistributed to welfare cases.
And her problem of getting by with just $500 is - well her problem.
If your kid turns down the free lunch at school he might be a Republican. :-)
Great.
My 18 yr old at school talks like a hard core republican and Hawk. But at home he thinks that me and his mom should be benevolent dictators and grant him his every wish and whim....
If you ask him he’d say he doesn’t anything handed to him.
I know a few kids who turned conservative as a result of their high schools coercing them to do volunteer work for graduation credit. They learned that while there are people with real and legitimate needs and they were happy to help them, they learned that those people were in the minority of those they were “helping”, and most of the rest of the people showing up for free food were not only obviously able bodied, but also entitled and incredibly rude.
Although he’s a big Bernie fan when he was a kid we expected him to become a Republican. We still have hope. At 14 we filed his first tax return and explained the entire process. His reaction was shock that Mr. Mercat and I were paying so much. He told us he thought we should get to vote more times. In college he lived very cheap and got scholarships and between that and a bit of money from his grandmothers he ended up with no student loans. He now is his own boss although not making much money. I think its the company he’s keeping. He lives in Boston.
then the real powers will all sit back and say well done, weâre safe. weâve got another generation of dems vs reps.
If your kid wants all the other kids toys, the kid probably is a Democrat.
