Cam Newtonâs dream season ended with a nightmare performance.
Fresh off being named the leagueâs MVP, the Panthers fifth-year quarterback was stymied by an aggressive Denver Broncos defense in his first Super Bowl appearance on Sunday.
It didnât get any better off the field, as Newton also walked out during his postgame interview.
âI donât know what you want me to say, Iâm sorry,â a very dejected Newton said, prior to walking off. CBS Sports Radioâs Jim Rome took a shot at Newton following his postgame press conference.
âCamâs presser was weak. If youâre going to celebrate when you win, youâve got to face the music when you lose,â Rome tweeted.

I kind of like these answers.

I had no dog in this fight. I pulled for both teams, because I like certain players on both teams. I think Cam was greatly disappointed in himself, and while he may still be immature, I think he did answer everyone’s questions politely though succinctly. I guess he learned that losing isn’t nearly as much fun as winning. He didn’t throw chairs or cuss at people. He stayed for at least 2-1/2 minutes. I don’t often watch post game interviews, so I don’t know how long they usually last. I’m not sure why this is a huge deal.
Cam was beat down all game. By the end of the first half you could see on his face that his cause was a lost one. Very few of us can fathom the physical and mental hurt he felt after that game. Not saying he’s the best role model. OTOH, the media are relentless and his answers to the questions are adequate enough. It’s a game, his team was beaten by a team that played better and made more plays. That’s what I saw, and that’s all he needs to say.
The obama kiss of death.
Because he was given the responsibility of being a Captain of the team and he's a role model to millions of kids.
How old is Jordon Speith?
That may be true. He could’ve praised the defense, but he couldn’t bring himself to do that.
Outplaying Manning was probably in there. “Pride goeth before the fall” was a big factor. Newton was pretty busy seeing his name in lights, based on his comments over the last couple of weeks.
(The NFL is 28 pct white, 68 pct black, and 3 pct other.)
Not to disparage you for your remark that Cam is only 24 . . . but when I was 24, I’d already had two tours in Vietnam and a heckuva lot of contemporary vets had twice as many tours in Afghan and Iraq. 24 is fully growed. Perhaps a different line of pity would be in order for this multi-millionaire young man who is utterly lacking in grace.
Contrast Russell Wilson (black man) and his response to losing the Super Bowl with Cam Newton’s petulance.
Wilson: “I take full responsibility for the loss.”
Newton: “Waaaaaaaaaaaaaa.”
The Denver defense didn't look like they were afraid of him.
Me too.
He was tired. He was disappointed...probably angry.
but he did answer questions. He may have been short...but he was t the point.
bigtoona, I agree. The press is hyping this. They wanted more red meat and they wanted more detail. Can answered their questions directly...if perhaps curt...and then ended it and went home.
I’m okay with that...particularly after seeing the answers he did give.
“As for age, at 26 he’s already too old to register for the draft. Age is no excuse. “
Regardless of what one thinks of our military, if someone like that joins up, it makes a man out of him, and not a spoiled brat who thinks he is center of the universe.
It was because of racism I’m sure.
It was too bad - Obama seemed all blazed up for the game, too.
I was waiting for Cam to break out in Dance like he did in Arizona. /s
Unfortunately, my prediction is we will hear a lot about Cam’s off the field behavior in the future.
The Race chip he carries on his shoulder is gonna cause him problems.
