As U.S. presidential candidates fight over the best way to address the influx of Central Americans across the Southwest border -- with debate about building walls and deporting immigrants -- the nation's public schools have opened their doors, taking responsibility for helping tens of thousands of children find their footing here.
It's not an easy task.
Many of the new arrivals don't speak much English and are behind academically. They often come with scars, having fled desperate poverty or violence or both. Many endured difficult journeys, sometimes leaving their families behind or rejoining parents in the United States after years of separation. And U.S. schools, already strapped for resources, are trying to provide special services, including ÂEnglish-language instruction and mental-health care.
The schools have to, because it's the law: Children who are living in this country have a right to a public education, regardless of their immigration status. But for many educators it's also more than a legal obligation, it's the moral thing to do.
"The United States is founded on human rights," said Sandra Jimenez, the principal of High Point High School in Prince George's County, Md., a Washington suburb where the immigrant population has grown rapidly. "The only reason these people are here is because they are desperate. These people are coming to survive."

Don't let them in and shove all that are here OUT!
Through this treachery on the part of those who are supposed to be serving us we are being marginalized. We pay the bills while the invaders enjoy the fruits of our labor and will vote Democrat/Communist!

What frigging choice do the schools have?
The Government will pull their funding if they don't and the State Laws require them to handle the influx of students, regardless of where they came from.
It isn't out of the kindness of their hearts, they are required by law to deal with it, and their funding hinges on it.
It’s OK. The taxpaying homeowners can lose their houses over the increased cost of schooling the third world.
Deportation is the cure
We need a President who will do it
... at a cost of billions to American (citizen) taxpayers.
Funny, I thought the purpose of a school was to educate, not to "help children find their footing."
Another pity story by the socialist media.
What moral obligation does the USA have to educate the children of the world? None, I suggest.
Educating the world’s children in the USA is simply another political pandering by Obama to the teacher’s union. More kids in the schools requires more teachers and more teachers means more votes from Democrats.
In order to stay in power the Democrats will bankrupt us.
And, every day they add a new scar to OUR children and our landscape. When will it end?
Teachers unions should be outlawed!

This situation is a nightmare and is not being addressed by the GOP nor by the Democrats.
There are several hundred million kids around the world in similar or worse living conditions than these illegal entrants invited by Obama. How many do these bleeding heart idiots think should be allowed to come and stay in the US?
As many will file through our border as the sick basta-d who poses as president desires.
800,000 will be registered Democrat voters by November.
All at the expense of our own students who are second class citizens in their own country.
