Yeah. Trump will “create borders and the drugs will stop pouring in”. In spite of the financial incentive to smuggle them.

I sure wish life was that simple.

I have plenty of questions about Trump, but the fact is that his is a doer obliged to no one.

If I had to bet my last dollar, I’d say he will do it if elected. Don’t you think if you were elected, you would be able to do such things by simply having heads roll (figuratively) if enforcement folks don’t do their job? Trump will owe no one anything, so folks will either do their job or lose their job. And the point will be made quickly. He is not going to want to look like a fraud. Just not who he seems to be. That much I think I know.

If we outlawed abortion, there would still be an incentive for abortions and they would still occur. should we abandon that fight as well then? Hell, there’s a financial incentive for theft. let’s just make that legal too since outlawing theft clearly hasn’t prevented theft.

Of course it is not that simple.

My understanding is that among illegal drugs (not counting alcohol and tobacco which are legal drugs), Marijuana is still the most popular and most widely used illegal drug in America. Following that, it is illegal use of Rx drugs like Oxycodone, Hydrocodone, Xanax, Codeine (often taken as "Drank") and even Ritalin and Adderall. There is also K2/Spice which is a "synthetic" marijuana and Methamphetamine (Meth). There is an epidemic of Heroin abuse and way too many overdose deaths, mostly among middle and upper middle class white kids.

There is no question that marijuana, cocaine, methamphetamine and heroin do come across our southern border, but not all do. Meth for example is manufacture all over the US. And Heroin still makes its way to the US via Afghanistan and Turkey.

Building a wall on our southern border unfortunately will not stop drug abuse. Drug addicts and their suppliers will just find other drugs and other routes and other sources.

I will "create borders" and the drugs will stop pouring in.

"Create" borders? Perhaps he should have said "enforce" borders. Or maybe he really does think he can create brand new ones.

"And the people that are in trouble, the people that are addicted, we're going to work with them and try and make them better. And we will make them better,"

How is Trump going to do that?

Donald Trump: Obamacare's going to be repealed and replaced. Obamacare is a disaster if you look at what's going on with premiums where they're up 40, 50, 55 percent.

Scott Pelley: How do you fix it?

Donald Trump: There's many different ways, by the way. Everybody's got to be covered. This is an un-Republican thing for me to say because a lot of times they say, "No, no, the lower 25 percent that can't afford private. But-"

Scott Pelley: Universal health care.

Donald Trump: I am going to take care of everybody. I don't care if it costs me votes or not. Everybody's going to be taken care of much better than they're taken care of now.

Scott Pelley: The uninsured person is going to be taken care of. How? How?

Donald Trump: They're going to be taken care of. I would make a deal with existing hospitals to take care of people. And, you know what, if this is probably-

Scott Pelley: Make a deal? Who pays for it?

Donald Trump: --the government's gonna pay for it. But we're going to save so much money on the other side. But for the most it's going to be a private plan and people are going to be able to go out and negotiate great plans with lots of different competition with lots of competitors with great companies and they can have their doctors, they can have plans, they can have everything.

Trump was equally forthcoming about his plans to raise taxes on the wealthy:

Scott Pelley: Revolution is easy, governing is hard and what I'd like to get to is how you intend to govern the country if you are elected president. What's your tax plan?

Donald Trump: It's a substantial reduction for the middle-income people. Because our middle class, Scott, is being absolutely decimated. It will be a corporate also reduction, I think it'll be a great incentive for corporations.

Scott Pelley: Who are you going to raise taxes on?

Donald Trump: If you look at actually raise, some very wealthy are going to be raised. Some people that are getting unfair deductions are going to be raised. But overall it's going to be a tremendous incentive to grow the economy and we're going to take in the same or more money. And I think we're going to have something that's going to be spectacular.

Scott Pelley: But Republicans don't raise taxes.

Donald Trump: Well, we're not raising taxes.

Scott Pelley: What kind of Republican are you?

Donald Trump: I mean the only, well, I'm a pretty good Republican. But, I will tell you this, I do have some differences. I don't want to have certain people on Wall Street getting away with paying no tax.

Typical Trump hyperbole and wealth distribution schemes.

Trump may recognize a problem but the focus is upon the wrong world.

It is our rightful place to refuse, even more than people bent on wrongdoing, angels bent on wrongdoing. I.e. we need a wall against hell, and this will only be built by God at our recognition of the need and our petition unto Him.

Take care of the hell problem and then you take care of the drug problem and a whole heap of other problems too.

Bank vaults and simple precautions certainly do a lot to curb bank robberies.
