BTW there is no difference in the context of a Republican primary. Carter prefers Trump which is why he spoke out. That’s the definition of endorsement vis a vis a Republican primary. I guess in the Iraq-Iran War of the 1980s our government preferred Iraq because they viewed it as less of a threat, but if you said Reagan "endorsed" Saddam or liked him, that probably wouldn't be correct. It was strictly tactical. If you said or implied otherwise in a political campaign people would be right to call you out for it.

Public enemy number one for Democrats is whatever Republican they think will beat them. It's the candidate they fear the most. They hate Ted Cruz, but he may not be the one they fear the most.
