Donald Trump Fires Back At Jeb Bush On His Family's Own History With Eminent Domain (TX Rangers)

Real estate mogul Donald Trump Sunday fired back at Republican presidential rival Jeb Bush on the subject of eminent domain, pointing out the Bush family once benefited financially from the government's power to seize private property for public development without owners' consent.

-snip-

"Eminent domain is a very important thing," Trump said. "Jeb Bush doesn't understand what it means. And if you look into the Bush family - I found this out 5 minutes ago. They used eminent domain for the stadium in Texas where they owned, I guess, a piece of the Texas Rangers."

Before he was elected governor of Texas, George W. Bush was a part-owner of the Texas Rangers. When the Major League Baseball team sought a new stadium in 1990, voters agreed to fund the bulk of construction costs with a sales tax increase, ESPN reported. The following year the Rangers persuaded the Legislature to pass a bill empowering a new "quasi-governmental entity" to use eminent domain, the sports network reported. The city of Arlington then used that power "to acquire the property from hundreds of private owners," Reason magazine reported.

Clinto9n used Eminent Domain for the Clinton Library. That’s why you haven’t heard from them. IIRC, George W also used Eminent Domain for his library.

You know as they Bush grilled Trump last night I wondered....has any other candidate or person of prominence used eminent domain for personal benefit.

Who do we know that is holding their breath, hoping they don’t get outted.

Nice job Trump, too bad he didn’t have the info a day earlier.

The federal over reach and siezure of private property
Jacki speaks with British author Rupert Darwall, international finance specialist and former Advisor to the British Chancellor of the Exchequer, on the Global Warming movement, its goals and methods. She also is joined by Rob Henneke of the Texas Public Policy Foundation to discuss the suit versus the federal government over their seizure of private property along the Red River.

Texans on the Red River awaken one day to find that the BLM has declared their ranches to be within the Red River and under BLM control. Landowners organize to fight for the land that has been theirs for generations, and TPPs Rob Henneke is leading the fight.

Didn’t need it a day earlier. Now it becomes grist for the news mill from here on out. It may well be better than a “gotcha” moment at the debate.

Either way, Bush walked right into it.

It is pretty childish behavior to justify one’s own bad behavior with ‘but Johnny does it too’. Ultimately they both are anti-constitution corporatists.

What does the federal BLM agency have to do with a private business parking lot in NJ? Am I missing something? Or are you making a yuuge assumption about Trump’s opinion on the BLM land grab?

Am I remembering correctly about some Freepers and many others who traveled to Florida to protest a land grab by Gov. Bush who was taking farms for ‘everglades restoration’???

AH, yes, here it is! http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/1013650/posts
FLORIDA DONATES LAND FOR EXPANSION OF EVERGLADES NATIONAL PARK

Also, Scotus John Roberts, friend of Ted Cruz and recruited by Cruz does not object to the Kelo decision. He says the congress still has the power to regulate Kelo, if they choose to.
