Syrian President Bashar al-Assad could make his biggest gains in the countryâs long civil warâand potentially tip its outcome in his favor in a matter of weeksâby wresting control of the city of Aleppo from opposition forces, two U.S. military officials told The Daily Beast on condition of anonymity.
If government forces are able to successfully encircle the city and hold it, and control the province around it, âthe war is essentially over,â said one of the senior defense officials.

âRussians understand war. Americans understand managing conflicts to get unsatisfactory results,â one official familiar with the U.S. military campaign told The Daily Beast.
Any country or movement would be foolish to rely on the US.
I hope Assad prevails. Then the west can send all those raping slugs back where they came from.
Saudi Arabia and Bahrain announced they’re sending forces to Syria as part of an anti-Assad coalition. At this point, the best thing they could do for the people of Syria is stay out of it and take in fleeing Syrians who don’t want to return to be under the thumb of Assad. But no. Now the oil kings want to needlessly extend the war.
Idiots.
They still think they can build that gas pipeline. It doesn’t matter to them how many people have to die for it.
So would any U.S. citizen, for that matter, at this point.
Government forces = Russian air power and Spetsnaz troops, Hezbollah, Iranian backed Iraqis, what’s left of the regular Syrian army.
The US only understands ‘managing conflicts to get unsatisfactory results’ as that’s all they done for the past 65 years. But that particularly odious world view has been largely shaped by liberal forces bent on the destruction of America, something they may have succeeded in accomplishing.
I’ve been rooting for Assad. I wish the US would have stayed out of the mission to topple regimes in the ME.
You know that.
I know that.
But they'll never do that because a mass of Syrian refugees in Saudia Arabia do not constitute an invading army in Europe.
It was a schizophrenic foreign policy. Fight a proxy war in Syria, as you pull out troops from Iraq. All done by the Progressive Senate Elite whole stole the Presidency with the Bush Lied People Died Canard. In reality Progressive Senators Lied and the West Died, as it is overrun by the rapefugees our Roman Senate created.
They’ve unleashed destruction across North Africa, The Middle East and now it is spilling into Europe and the US.
It was not incompetence, it was intentional.
Interesting to see how this administration has promoted the notion that only ISIS remains as a âterror organizationâ while the al-Qaeda franchise al-Nusra has morphed into ârebelsâ and âopposition,â i.e. US-approved good guys.
Promotion of al-Qaeda as the good guy has become necessary for this administration’s narrative because the al qaeda aligned al-Nusra terrorist gang and its allies are the only militarily significant opposition to Assad remaining outside ISIS.And President Obama would rather see al qaeda that threatens the West in charge of Syria than Assad who does not pose a threat so he can save political face in having backed the wrong horse.
So Obama’s propaganda turnabout on al-Qaeda makes perfect sense in an outrageously dishonest kind of way - if youâre prepared to forget little things like the 9/11 terrorist atrocity. I trust the Russians who are in it for their own self serving interests more on this one than I do the current occupant of the Oval office.
Great news. ISIS and Al Qaeda in Syria are on the run!
On the run ... well hopefully the same can be pulled off in Libya and with Boko Haram - bigger murderers that either of the other two. Didn’t know ISIS was in trouble yet - was waiting for the Russian extermination campaign ...
Good! Can everyone go home now?
You forgot to add Alawite Militias who fight in support of Assad’s troops.
Phase 1 is about to be over. Phase 2 against ISIS is coming up unless Assad wants to settle for a rump Alawite State.
