Excellent and from an odd source. I thought TownHall was against Trump, yet this is his basic message.

Townhall did not write the op-ed and I have not read where Townhall is against or for Trump.

The author of the op-ed is John Hawkins. Townhall.com published the op-ed

Trump does not own these ideas. Even here, we’ve talked about this for years.

This is Donald Trump’s message on some days... partially... depending on which Donald shows up and in which state he’s campaigning.

This is Ted Cruz’s message every hour of every single day.

Trump has approached it as best he can without an overtly spiritual philosophy.

Helping America back to its feet, if it happens, will be a spiritual work. I don’t see Trump so much as a potential cause, but as a potential player in a larger movement which is not even as much of men as of God. And God doesn’t even need overtly religious people to do it. Some Trump friends have likened the potential situation to that of Cyrus the Great. He didn’t care (much, if any) about the God of the universe, but still was a benefactor to the ancient Hebrews when they were in the lurch.

I think of the passage where God said He was astonished that nobody was there to save, so He worked salvation by his own mighty hand. The church has forgotten its Lord and embraced a powerless form of religion which, instead of embracing society into mercy, has taught it cruelty. As the song a few decades back put it, “Sock it to you, in the name of the Lord.”

And I’ve gotten some flak for saying this but I will say it again. Modern “liberalism” (actually very worldly and illiberal) has marched right into that gap with its counterfeit come-ons. They resemble the mission of Christ about like the god Mithras did. But if there is no standard bearer for the heart of God, then an ersatz heart will walk off with what should have belonged to God’s heart. It is human nature to fall for it. We ask why the prodigal son ate the pig feed pods, it’s because he had to have some food and was distant from his father and could not get any other kind of food.

This has been my feeling for quite some time and if anything it is becoming more pronounced. It does not appear to apply just to America as it seems to be a worldwide malaise and a common problem, Unfortunately more often than not it may take a destructive event, such as a war to straighten things out. And I am afraid we may not be too far off for one.

Our politicians are more crooked than the mob and less competent than the French military in WWII.

John Hawkins gets it. Great piece... should have been 5 separate columns... or a book... or two.
