Just how might he do that enough to satisfy his detractors? Does he have to drop out of the race?

If I were to write the script for tonight, it would read something like this:

“Look, my campaign workers acted in an over-exuberant way the other night, taking a news story that was favorable to our side without being careful to follow it up through to its conclusion BEFORE acting on it. They made what they thought was the right call, given their enthusiasm to support my run and, maybe, given the human propensity to act in haste. I apologize to you for their behavior in front of all assembled here, as many across America and in this room feel it was a deceptive, underhanded trick to win the Iowa Caucus. I apologize that it has created the perception that it contributed to people switching their votes. Though no evidence exists to confirm this, I do realize that the perception remains, and we all know how perception often becomes reality, especially in politics. If it turns out that voters did, in fact switch their votes to a vote for me as a direct result of the actions of my staffers, I say, remove these votes from my totals and re-calculate the results. At this point, that is all that can be done to rectify the situation that makes any logical sense. Let those who voted for me re-cast their votes for you, or for whichever candidate they were thinking of voting for and re-tally the vote. Whether or not at this date this is possible, I don’t know, but if it can be done, it should be done to ensure that all Americans have the full assurance that our political process is fair, is ethical...that it works! I hope this solution meets with your approval.

To my supporters...I have taken steps to get with my team and to stress that winning is not the goal here, but winning while maintaining the highest ethical standards of any campaign is. This hasn’t just hurt you, Ben, it has hurt me, as well—the polls and the media coverage just now reflect that. My name is on the campaign bus. It’s on the signs. It’s in the news. The questions about integrity ultimately reflect on my name. It is something I cannot abide. So, to all my supporters out there, I apologize if this has put you in a difficult position of having to defend what many have said are questionable campaign tactics. I apologize that, instead of being able to defend my record and my current campaign of trying to restore America back to her Constitutional principles, you have to engage your friends, your families, your coworkers with trying to defend this misstep on the part of my campaign staff. I assure you, we have addressed this internally. Those who were responsible have been given notice that they must exert more restraint and reserve in seeking to advance our cause or they will lose the privilege to continue to work with us. Ben, I am hopeful that by coming here today to issue this formal, public apology it will enable you and me to move forward from here to rally our respective troops for the cause of defeating our liberal opponents. If you feel, however, that this apology has not gone far enough, please let me know, as I am seeking to restore our friendship which, of course, must be based on mutual respect for one another.”

Wow. Too bad you are not Ted Cruz. That is a brilliant overview and actually a decent explanation of what happened and actually shows some apology. However, you are a decent person so of course you would do something like this. Ted Cruz would never do anything near this. He will probably just dodge tonight and continue to laugh at the absurdity of it that he belives....he is so dumb to let this go on like this. His quest to be right on this subject that should have been a 5 minute clip at most is the problem. Well see tonight. I imagine the other thing with Cruz is that he was going to lose NH anyway so he probably just wants to run out the clock and thinks that SC won’t care about this issue which is 2 weeks after NH. He may be right but I still think it is an arrogant place to be.
