Obama just took a victory lap on the economy and mocked Republicans' 'doom and despair' tour
Business Insider ^ | February 5, 2016 | Allan Smith

President Barack Obama took time Friday to boast about the January jobs report, which showed the unemployment rate dropping to its lowest rate in eight years.

He also used the speech as a chance to mock Republican presidential candidates for criticizing the economy on the campaign trail.

"The United States of America has the strongest, most durable economy in the world," he said. "I know that's still inconvenient for Republican stump speeches as their doom and despair tour plays out in New Hampshire."

He began his news conference by mentioning that unemployment was below 5% nationally for the first time in eight years — and that the deficit and gas prices were down.

"We also have to do more to make sure the progress we make is broadly based," Obama said. "Talking down the American economy does not bring that progress."

When he was later asked about why many Americans remained anxious about the economy, he said the US should be proud of the progress under his administration.

"If we embraced Republican strategies, we would've done worse," he said, pointing to European austerity measures.

"Because Europe did a lot of those things and they haven't recovered yet," he said. "This jobs report gives one more indication that the facts are on our side."

He then added that the idea that "immigrants and poor people" were taking money out of people's paychecks was "just not true," a not-so-subtle shot at rhetoric emanating from the Republican presidential field.

"The facts don't bear that out," he said.

‘”The United States of America has the strongest, most durable economy in the world,” he said.’

He should know, since he’s been doing everything possible to destroy it.

The president is one of the last, if not THE last, persons you should believe on the state of the economy/nation/etc.

No self-respecting politician will ever say “Things are bad and it’s my fault.”

Yahoo Business shouldn’t be so coy about it’s agenda.

Forgetting the fact that Obama charted an energy policy to explicitly keep gas prices high to force people into green energy -
http://www.nationalreview.com/article/265809/are-sky-high-gas-prices-good-victor-davis-hanson

If anything Obama is now happy to see lower gas prices for the political talking points and because it’s destroying the domestic oil companies. Win-win for him.

As for the job levels? Those are pure Orwellian propaganda.

Oh, I don’t know. After 7 years of action finally being executed on those foreclosures and disposition of the property; loans for the new homeowners having had to undergo scrutiny of assets, ability to pay and stability; record numbers of citizens (and some not) being now firmly ensconced in the entitlement pipeline; and a stock market still content on government purchases of MBSs and its own T-bills; the board has been cleaned and those with ability to buy new houses, have improved things a lot. Morning in America once more.

The big thing, I think however, is that people finally realize we’re rounding the bend on that last trudge to January 20, 2017 when that Halfrican Kenyan is finally gone.

I don’t think people buy this crap.

For a while there, putting lipstick on this piggish economy may have had an element of providing hope. He’s gone from things WILL get better to “don’t you see, things HAVE gotten better”.

Typical snake-oil sales tactic.

No doubt Obama’s personal economy is doing exceedingly well with millions of dollars stashed around the world and bloated to the max off-shore accounts.

I am not well versed on this subject but if China is having troubles with their economy and we are indebted to China won’t this affect us down the line?

If Barry ever left his bubble and visited flyover country or "his people" in urban neighborhoods who voted 110% for him, he could see that things have not gone awfully well since he was elected.

“The United States of America has the strongest, most durable economy in the world,”

There are 94+ million out of work American adults who don’t agree with you. Almost double the number of Americans that voted for you.

Doom and despair?? Didn’t he watch the Democrat “debate” Thursday night? They gave new meaning to the terms “doom and despair”. I believe Obama has finally found the career he can pursue after the White House: stand up comic...
