President Barack Obama will propose a $10 a barrel tax on oil to pay for transporation programs, reports said Thursday. The proposed tax would help pay for projects to encourage mass transit, high-speed rail and self-driving cars, Politico reported. The proposal is due to be included in Obama's final budget request next week. The Republican-controlled Congress is likely to harshly criticize Obama's plan, which comes in the midst of an election year.

Tax and spend.

Borrow and spend.

To hell with it! Just print it and spend.

All in the hopes of getting 1/10th or 1/100th of a penny in kickbacks, off of each dollar they loot from the treasury.

Where is the demand for mass transit, high-speed rail, or self-driving cars? Wouldn't the money be better spent on airports, air traffic control, and highways?

These dipwads never run out of ideas to lighten your wallet.

Well, with oil and gasoline prices in free fall, the tax-and-spend(-and-spend-and-spend-and-spend) crowd figures our wallets must be feeling heavy these days.

Since that will increase my prices for driving and heating, why are my transportation costs always used to subsidize mass transit and high speed rail of which I will never use. why can’t those pay their own way too.

"When will this douche bag mental midget be gone?"

Well, don't wait for the douche bag mental midgets, AKA the U.S. Congress, to impeach him.

10 dollars... times 19 million barrels per day... times 365 days per year... about 70 billion annually out of another energy industry... and getting passed on to consumers as well.

“”Sounds like a lot of spending in and around big cities
with most of the jobs going to unionized workers.””

I still want to know what happened to the stimulus money for this work. Biden was in charge of accounting for it....

Another unanswered question - what happened to the $65 billion Hillary was given with no questions asked when she was SOS???

AND another one- WHERE ARE the buses we bought and paid for for this jerk’s use?

Inquiring minds want to know or at least this one does!

These idiots never understand markets or business.
Seems the complete destruction of BIG oil isn’t coming quick enough. This probably would allow the government take over Maxine Waters threatened in 2008.

When will I wake from this damn nightmare?

Sorry to break it to you, but I don't think the nightmare is going to end. In the not too distant future most of us will have a front row seat to he collapse of the US as we knew it. Our leadership is totally corrupt. We are a rudderless ship without a moral compass.

“...lot of spending in and around big cities”

They spend plenty now on those $400K local buses. You know the ones with the black windows so you can’t see the only one on board is the driver (most of the time).

Those are excellent questions. In a different era
an ambitious investigative reporter and/or a hard charging
Republican Congressman or Congresswoman, or Senator would be asking those questions. But to do so today means a very short career and absolutely and positively NO invitations to the “right type” of cocktail parties in Washington, D.C., NYC, or LA.

The oil producers probably rolled over on this in advance agreeing not to resist it at the same time they agreed to go along with a carbon tax. Even the two combined makes no difference to them now that they can export oil again for the first time in forty years.
