Trump resists staff calls to change course
National Journal ^ | 2/3/12 | Ben Schreckinger

In the lead-up to Donald Trump's loss in Iowa, staffers sought additional funding for campaign infrastructure and were denied.

Now, six days from the New Hampshire primary and looking for his first win, Trump is still refusing to shake up his ground game. He has added just one paid organizer in the state, a move that came a month ago. Instead, he is pushing ahead with plans to campaign outside of the state in the final week of voting and will count on the glamour of famous surrogates, including his sons, who plan to tour New Hampshire beginning this weekend.

But while the campaign has shifted resources into the first primary state, that move amounted to a single staffer - Stuart Jolly, a former Americans for Prosperity operative brought onto the campaign to focus on the Southern states that vote on March 1.

One person familiar with the move said Jolly was brought in because New Hampshire state director Matt Ciepielowski, a 2011 college graduate, was "in over his head."

Anyone with a microphone in celebrity rock status mesmerized crowds...can say anything.

A la Obama...and unfortunately, it got him elected...twice. :-(

One more thing...is Mike Lee conservative enough for everyone here?

I’m asking because Sen. Cruz damn near caused Mike Lee to end up with a very well funded, establishment, primary opponent that probably would have beat him. It was serious enough that the Utah legislature changed some of the caucus rules here so this candidate could run against Lee. This was due to the gov’t shutdown that amounted to nothing, except for the fact that the tourism business in this state shut down with the national parks closed. It caused a ton of hardship on people here. When I say “tourism” I am not talking about Aunt Tillie and Uncle Jim coming over from neighboring Nevada for the weekend. I am talking about entire families coming over from Germany or Japan and staying for a few weeks.

It almost cost one of our most conservative Senators of all his job.

He is 20 points ahead!! If it ain’t broke— don’t fix it!! Trump did great in IOWA. I think if Cruz had not lied about Carson “dropping out” . Trump would have won. Cruz only had to fool 4 voters per precinct to change the outcome. “Tricky Teddy”

That is such a misleading number, and you know it. Carson only had ~11 voters per precinct total, and even that number was higher than expected given his poll numbers prior to the caucus. Those "4 voters per precinct" (or, put in a less misleading way, 6,200 voters) simply didn't exist for Carson.

I hope you’re right. I see nothing to suggest that.

>>I have to think that if Trump was really serious, he would be building a serious ground game.<<

Trump absolutely hates shaking hands. That little factoid, which he published in one of his books, explains a lot. That’s why he prefers speaking to large crowds instead of going to town halls where he’d have to be up close and personal, and it’s likely why he’s staying out of NH where the voters expect to press the flesh, sending his family in to represent him instead.

It’s also probably why he flies home every night instead of staying in a local establishment, or even at the home of a friend of the campaign. He’s simply afraid of germs. I’m really surprised this hasn’t come up very much so far. Running for President with an aversion to shaking hands would seem to put him at a significant disadvantage.

So the Carson people just voted for Carson ( who had pulled out) ? I don’t think so. I understand many are coming forward very soon. How many votes per precinct would have swung the election— answer 4!! It was far more than that.

The argument isn’t that Cruz didn’t benefit, the argument is that Cruz won because of it.

But that is not supported by basic math. Cruz won by 6,000 votes. There is no chance that those votes were all going to Carson.

Put up just hours ago, in this longish (14 minute) TRIFECTA, these three guys pretty much echo my thoughts and rantings of the last few months.
We are in the midst of one of the most revolutionary elections in our lifetime. It could go either way. How it DOES go largely depends on how informed YOU and those around you become between now and November!
In the interests of “diversity”, there’s something in this one to delight or anger everyone.
EITHER WAY, THIS ELECTION WILL START A REVOLUTION!

Absolutely DID happen....in my opinion

Two contradictory statements, there.

Which is it? Fact, or opinion? Don’t bother. We already know.

I’m a trump supporter but he’s down in the latest PPP poll. I never miss a rally but his shtick is getting old. He needs new material for the debate or Rubio will gain on him. He needs to talk jobs to the college crowd.

Don’t spread that RINO Karl Rove lie. Cruz would’ve had to steal 26% of Carson’s voters to have lost without them. Absolutely impossible for anyone to do in a few minutes time. If it was that easy, every politician would be doing it every election.

You may be right, but I don’t agree.

Trump seized the Cruz controversy to take control of the narrative and drive media coverage.

Personally, I think he should continue to focus on the border, jobs and safety.

He’s abandoned what brought him to the dance.

Evidently, you have never seen the end of any of his rallies or seen the posts on FB of people showing their selfies and/or stuff signed by DJT. Or the hugs.

(as the SS guys are sweating bullets 18” away)

You can find them on You Tube. They’re cute, actually.

Yup, and Iowa was iffy all along anyway. What works in caucuses (lying, bullying at the pollster, intimidation) doesn’t work in normal primaries where fraud isn’t allowed at the moment of voting.

“The rich hate spending their own money.”

That’s how we become rich.

And don’t we need a president that is thrifty, with a debt of $19T!!!
