Firefighters Slam Ted Cruz For Claiming To Be Their Champion While Opposing 9/11 Health Bill
The Huffington Post ^ | 2/3/16 | Amanda Terkel

A powerful firefighters union went after Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas) Wednesday for claiming to be their defender and champion in his Iowa caucuses victory speech.

"What Ted Cruz did the other night in his Iowa victory speech is disgusting," said Harold Schaitberger, president of the International Association of Fire Fighters. "He said he embraces fire fighters and the dangerous work they do, says he's our friend and calls himself a great patriot. But when it came time to actually have the backs of fire fighters across the U.S., he was AWOL. Cruz is the worst kind of politician who will say or do anything to get elected."

That anger stems from Cruz invoking the 9/11 terrorist attacks and the work of the first responders in his remarks Monday night, when he said he would be different from President Barack Obama....

But what irks Schaitberger is that Cruz opposed reauthorizing the James Zadroga 9/11 Health and Compensation Act, which provides health care for those same firefighters and first responders....

The 9/11 health bill was just like the Hurricane Sandy relief legislation, larded with pork spending on things quite remote (substantively and geographically) to the title of the bill. That is an easy concept for voters to understand.

Thanks, Wally. I thought it must be that kind of thing.

Yeh, Firefighters don’t deserve coverage or consideration by Cruz because they are union. So Christian.

Consider the source. A partisan Left-wing union (unlike the UFOA) that supports 0bama, quoted on a Communist Web site. The bill in question, if I remember correctly, was a Democratic welfare atrocity with a bone thrown in for firemen in the hopes of catching a few conservative votes. A wolf in sheep's clothing. If you have info that it was a good bill, let me know, but that's what I remember.

Can you be more specific, Trumpinator? I used to be an employee of the City of New York and the medical benefits were as extensive, and less expensive (for me, the employee), than the medical coverage I've had working at good Wall Street investment firms. It's been almost fifteen years since 9/11. What ailments do rescue workers suffer from that are not being covered by their health insurance?

I'm not doubting there are people who are suffering; I'm just wondering why their current or former employers’ health plans are not taking care of them.

Cruz is an out and out liar, a sleazeball. How anyone falls for his bull is strange. Like a cult following in compete denial abut their leader. I would think it would have to be obvious to anyone with Hoy Spirit what a phoney he is.

[who would the 9/11 Health Bill cover, and why wouldn’t those people not already have medical coverage?]

Didn’t the families receive private donations also?

Some here have myopic ten minute memories like Obama supporters have had for the past 8 years. Too many have abandoned the conservative cause to place hope in one man. It’s one thing to support a candidate. It’s the other to suspend all beliefs and facts to destroy the other candidates at all costs.

They ought to but not the noobs whose sole purpose is, it seems, starting fights between Cruz and Trump supporters, while trashing them both, to the benefit of the establishment GOPee.

One of the people who left his campaign said he only prays when there are reporters around to see it.

It may not be 100% coverage, but it does have a catastrophic out of pocket limit that is usually around 4 to 5 thousand per family. Additionally, work related illnesses and injuries should be covered under worker’s compensation.

Well we all know how fair and balance the news media is especially to a conservative like Cruz so what ever they print must be true.

“I am just going off of what I read in the papers. I am not an expert.”

Trumpinator, I'm not beating up on you when I write this: politicians slap a name such as “9/11 Health Bill” on proposed legislation and, when asked questions I've asked here, respond with vague allusions to “gaps” in coverage. Then, anyone who presses for more info, is accused — not by you — of being “unchristian”. And this is on Free Republic! Taxpayers are often blackmailed by politicians who are in cahoots with smarmy celebrities like Jon Stewart a la: “Pass this pork-filled bill or we'll say you're mean to firemen.”

We've got to start pushing back hard on stuff like the 9/11 Health Bill.

Like a cult following in compete denial abut their leader.

Seriously? Are you actually saying that your statement does not equally apply to Trump supporters(of course not) or any of the other candidates supporters? It's over the top statements like this that are being flung around here and making the site really weird because usually we only see such hyperbole applied to demonrats.

I think you are correct - and for the 911 compensation many of the illnesses can't be proven to be from WTC so are not treat as having happened in the line of duty. So that is why there is needed something to cover the gap. Again, nit an expert - just what I remember from reading the papers.

It was ayes or no vote. So how could reporting what he voted on the 9/11 health bill be fair or unfair?

" Like a cult following in compete denial abut their leader. "

Exactly, notice how the misdirection of the topic is manipulated?

The point being made is that Ted is lying once again, he says he supports the firefighters for political cover and he is being called out for the lying, dishonest piece of Canadian garbage that he is.
