Bernie Sanders demands ‘living wage’ but pays his own interns $12 an hour

Sanders has propelled himself to the near-top of the Democrats' favorite list based on, among many things, his support for a "living wage." "The current federal minimum wage of $7.25 an hour is a starvation wage," the irascible senator proclaimed at a Capitol Hill rally last year, "and [it] must be raised to a living wage." That's a nice, and unrealistic, sentiment. But the problem is that Sanders doesn't think his own employees deserve that kind of pay. According to the Media Research Center, the Sanders campaign pays its interns only $12 an hour. That's a hefty sum for phone bankers and coffee fetchers. But it's not enough to pay apartment rent and feed a family. Does Bernie not think his college-age employees deserve to live securely?

Could be supplemental for a little extra income. Like if I wanted to buy some additional speed parts for my truck.

Last night, I saw a piece on Bernie on Nightline...infuriating.

They spelled out his plan:

Step 1. Free College!!! Yeah!! Free everything!
Step 2. Tax the rich and corporations.

Only a toddler would vote for that...and we have a lot of adult toddlers out there.

More than I make and I’ve had 15 years of experience. Interns are just that. It’s PRACTICE for the real world.

Well, bless the kids that do actually take these jobs. I’ve seen plenty of them working them for whatever reason. There are others that wouldn’t dare “lower” themselves to working these jobs. Maybe some of them will learn a thing or two. Or realize that they need to exert more effort to rise to more lucrative careers.

If the minimum mandated hourly rate is raised high enough to enable a person to afford an apartment, a car, and food, then the prices for apartments, cars and food will rise rapidly, making the rate too low. This will spur the leftists to demand another raise in the rate, which will then repeat the above process.

“starvation wage”

Ok, Bernie, so millions of working Americans are starving.
Better to not work at all, right?
Or are all those not in the labor force starving too?

Some state jobs don’t pay 15 an hour. I had a few.

I got out partly because of no desire to stay in poverty.

Maybe folks should try the math out before saying stupid things.

If one were to annualize 12 dollars an hour (52 weeks time 40 hours = 2800 hours per year), one arrives at at yearly salary of 33,600.

At that salary, the US poverty guidelines for 2015 indicate that you are not living in poverty unless you have more than 4 people living on that income.

Yep. Bernie should lead by example by sharing his income with his staff. Come on there Bernie. Show the country how it’s done.
