Steve King Is the Happiest Man in Iowa (King pushes GOP towards "nativism")
New Republic ^ | February 3, 2016 | Steven Cohen

Posted on 02/03/2016 8:58:58 PM PST by ObamahatesPACoal

Steve King could not hold back the tears Monday night as Ted Cruz, the Iowa congressman’s annointed presidential candidate, stood at the podium in Des Moines and triumphantly rambled about Jesus, “courageous conservatives,” and the nebulous menace of something called the Washington Cartel.

(SNIP)

In the aftermath of Iowa, the 2016 Republican primary appears to have become a three-way race between Cruz (a King disciple), Donald Trump (arguably running to the right of both on immigration, King’s signature issue), and Marco Rubio (who King helped cow into opposing his own comprehensive immigration bill back in 2013).

(SNIP)

And King, of course, never stopped talking about “sanctuary cities”—an issue that was injected into the presidential campaign last year after Kathryn Steinle, a white woman, was killed by Juan Francisco Lopez-Sanchez, an undocumented Mexican immigrant.

To say simply that Steve King was a few years ahead of his time, though, is to miss the point. Despite all evidence to the contrary, King is an intelligent political operator.

(SNIP) Watching him onstage Monday night— weeping tears of joy that the guy who made his bones hunting RINOs on the floor of the Senate had beaten the guy who wants to make Mexico pay for a border wall—how could anyone say he hasn’t?

The way its worded the New Republic people are saying Katie Steinle didn't check her privilege. Pretty disgraceful wording.

Steve King was the first congress member to have Trump stump for him in 2012.

The left has become increasingly consumed with racial hatred. Their marxist overlords know they can sell class conflict disguised as racial oppression. It has been done many times.

This slime ball helped Cruz steal votes from Dr. Carson. The doctor was looking forward to Iowa, said a lot of people would be surprised. He might have taken 2nd or 3rd place but now will never know.

It’s unacceptable.

I agree—Carson probably was third and should have gotten 5 votes, and now we have the Rubio train chugging faster thanks to Faux News and Rush Limbaugh...thanks Cruz.

frankly, I am very disappointed at the willingness of some politicians and their advocates to basically say their end justifies whatever means—that is neither honest nor Christian.

I did not agree with Cruz on his particular religious doctrine or faith, but I used t think he was a man of integrity—not a “well it is not illegal so it is OK” kind of guy. I used to admire King for his stand on immigration, but King outright lied in his tweets to get his guy in.

It is not acceptable, and now Rubio is gaining—something few on FR wanted.

I truly believe that very, very few caucus-goers who supported Carson would have been tricked into not voting for him absent Carson himself stating it. Certainly not enough to account for the 1000s he would have needed to beat Rubio for third.

That being said, it showed a distasteful lack of class, ethics and honor on the part of Cruz to willingly lie about a good man like Dr. Carson.

So in the end, it truly made zero difference to the outcome in terms of delegates, but it sullied Ted Cruz more than he and his die hards realize.

I was definitely supporting Cruz up until that rotten trick. Now, he goes into the category: I will vote for him in the general, but that is as much support as he is getting from me.

My family members who were on the fence got knocked off said fence by Cruz himself, and not onto his side. In the end, I am glad I know this early on the content of his character.

Actually, they did the math on O’Reilly’s show and it Cruz only got 4 votes per district (went out to 1500) it would explain his win. As for Rubio, the whole race shifted with this vote. We’ll never know but you’re right, it was a dirty rotten trick.

You have to realize that Rove is trying to oversimplify and obfuscate the issue. If you divide the total number GOP caucus goers by 1500, it is just over 100. These are small, intimate events where there were Carson supporters in the room if some Cruz supporter were to make such a claim.

Based on the numbers, the average precinct would have been about 110 people, and the following unfolded:

There were 12 Carson delegates standing around, and then one of the 30 or so Cruz folks made the dropout claim. The 12 Carson folks look at each other, shrug, and 4 walk over to the Cruz team.

Do you really think that 4 of the Carson folks told the other 8 that they were going to just believe the Cruz people and that was it? None of the Carson folks checked their phones to see if it was true?

Rove wants you to believe that 1/3 of Carson backers believed the Cruz people. Yet not one Caucus goer for Carson has made the claim that in their Caucus anyone defected to Cruz because of the claim.

Rove is scum, and will do anything to prevent any conservatives from winning the GOP nomination.

Not to mention is is false to claim the ‘news’ reached all 1600 caucus locations. It wasn’t brought up at my caucus. In talking to many, many participants, the ‘news’ seems only have been known in a handful of locations. And no Carson supporter has come forward to acknowledge changing their vote.

I’m always willing to update my conclusions if someone can give me more *actual* information.

Forget the Carson thing...

I still want to know why he insinuated that Sarah Palin was on the take.

When confronted about it on CNN, he did't retract. He didn't clarify. Nothing.

He just let his statement stand, and then tried to act like it was mean of Sarah Palin to blast him for telling such a damaging lie about her.

You are correct. King needs to answer for this. And Cruz needs to fire the people responsible for the ‘voter violation’ mailer (no matter how many other times it has been used).

The Carson thing is just a stupid distraction.
