Donald Trump just accused Ted Cruz of stealing the Iowa caucuses over the Cruz campaign's admission that it helped spread a rumor that Ben Carson was dropping out of the race:

Donald J. Trump @realDonaldTrump Ted Cruz didn't win Iowa, he stole it. That is why all of the polls were so wrong and why he got far more votes than anticipated. Bad!

--SNIP--

Update 2. Oh boy:

Donald J. Trump @realDonaldTrump Based on the fraud committed by Senator Ted Cruz during the Iowa Caucus, either a new election should take place or Cruz results nullified. 9:28 AM - 3 Feb 2016

I’m okay with that. Trump needs to squelch it down to that level, not call for a re-do.

So it's a "vicious, dirty trick" for a couple of Cruz supporters to see something on a CNN Tweet and pass it on? (That isn't your position, but Trump's, and some of his supporters.)

Seems like they are trying to make a scandal out of basically nothing. How many potential Carson supporters even knew about this Tweet business until after they voted? And how many therefore didn't vote, or switched their vote to someone else? Probably not nearly enough to have made a difference in who won.

Trump needs to move on, he did fine in Iowa all things considered.

McCain finished fourth in Iowa in 2008, Iowa is a fart in a windstorm.

Here are some other tweets that came out before the caucuses that the Trumpkins are also conveniently ignoring:

“@RealBenCarson not going to New Hampshire nor South Carolina instead heads home to Florida then Washington per @jaketapper #IowaCaucus”

“Carson not going to NH says @CNN? Cruz no doubt wishing he’d already packed it in, putting his IA votes in play.”

“How @DanaBashCNN just reacted to news that Ben Carson will head home after oiowa: “If you want to be POTUS, you don’t go home to Florida.”

“.@RealBenCarson heading home to Florida after Iowa to rest & be with family, not going directly to NH or SC, @moody reports.”

“.@RealBenCarson #UPDATE heading home - skips New Hampshire-South Carolina announcement at 9:15 AM Tues #IowaCaucus pic.twitter.com/n5sIFWFtcz”

So, if you are reading all of those tweets, along with the original CNN report, you don’t think a reasonable person could conclude that Carson was planning on dropping out??

By the way, that horrible, deceptive release that the Cruz campaign sent out? Here is what it said:

“Breaking News. The press is reporting that Dr. Ben Carson is taking time off from the campaign trail after Iowa and making a big announcement next week.

Please inform any Carson caucus goers of this news and urge them to caucus for Ted Cruz.”

Can you please point out anything in that release that was incorrect or deceptive?

The media have been friendly to Cruz? What planet have you been on? Two days in a row, my local paper ran anti-Cruz stuff in the comic section!

I think Donald is being a whiner over this but, I also think that Cruz is a slime ball. He plays the kind of politics we criticize when Democrats do it yet it seems many can overlook it for him.

This is a good write-up by CNN on Cruz's Iowa campaign. Long story short: Cruz won with a vastly superior ground game than the other candidates.

Ted Cruz's conventional campaign to win Iowa

Amazing.

Cruz pulls several underhanded, scummy tricks which directly affect people’s votes and could very well have changed the outcome of the Iowa caucus. Trump calls him on it. The reaction of you people is to viciously attack Trump.

The only conclusion is that you approve of underhanded, dirty tricks to win an election and you’re no better than the candidate you obviously support.

It does beg the imagination for a more generous explanation; perhaps their politics is idolatry ?

Re:”A couple of morning tweets and the press goes into a frenzy. Instead of talking about his victory in Iowa Cruz will have to defend himself. His momentum is finished.”

Your incisive analysis is spot on.
You should contact Team Cruz so Cruz can drop out>
Your sage service to conservatism should be rewarded.

I was just hearing the opening of Rush Limbaugh and listening to Rush read Trump’s tweets and laughing out loud.

It was hilarious.

Does Trump actually want to lose? Or is he as tone deaf in his own way as the GOPe is in their way?

I wouldn’t blame him if he is trying to tank. Why would Trump want to actually be President? It would be like a straitjacket on him.

It may not have affected Trump but it was still wrong.

It affected Trump and everyone because it would have given Cruz a higher vote total than he deserved, or it increased his margin over Trump.

The shocking thing that this thread reveals is how many people on Free Republic are willing to overlook the dirty tricks and outright lies from the campaign of the candidate now posing as a devout Christian and most pure conservative.

I have no doubt that the “bombshell” Breitbart will be releasing today has to do with the make-up of the team that Cruz has put together. He has hired people who are specialists in manipulating social media, such as Facebook, Twitter and yes even Free Republic using outright lies and falsehoods.

This type of behavior might be expected of Clinton supporters... but how does it square with the values of those of us on Free Republic. How long are we going to be willing to make excuses for someone who appears to be willing to do or say anything to win the presidency?

easily. First you wrote this:

This is in the same vein as skipping the debate because he doesn’t like one of the moderators.

Then in responding to me, you changed it to this:

Trump said that he’s skipping the debate because Megyn Kelly was “unfair” to him.

I’m am so tired of people playing games with words by leaving out a small word, or changing it to totally change the context of the statement. Also, Fox put out a very biased press release and had illegals there to ask
questions. What I”d like to know is why did any of them go to this ambush?

Jake Tapper says CNN words were twisted. Cruz and team got caught deal with it. Cruz should reap what he sows.

“At best, the reaction of the Cruz campaign to the news that Carson was taking a break was grossly irresponsible and incompetent.”

No it wasn’t! Team Cruz did what any competent campaign would do after CNN said Carson was going home!

Re:”I just don’t understand why Cruz people are ok with this behavior. Since when is cheating and theft conservative values? I am stunned.

You are delusional.
Stop spreading your lies.
His team pointed to a story on CNN, just like Rubio.
He is just pissed because he got his ass kicked.
He is a sore loser.
