Jeb Bush, an Also-Ran in Iowa, May Be Pivotal in New Hampshire
NY Times ^ | 2/2/16 | JONATHAN MARTIN and ASHLEY PARKER

In the crowded New Hampshire primary, no candidate may shape the direction of the Republican presidential campaign more than the man who finished sixth in Iowa: Jeb Bush.

With Senator Ted Cruz of Texas, Donald J. Trump and Senator Marco Rubio of Florida each finishing more than 20 percentage points higher than Mr. Bush in the Iowa caucuses on Monday, the former Florida governor is facing growing pressure to either demonstrate his appeal to voters or leave the race.

Specifically, many Republicans - including some of his supporters and donors - said Tuesday that Mr. Bush must finish ahead of Mr. Rubio in the primary here on Tuesday to justify continuing his campaign into South Carolina.

"If Rubio beats him badly in New Hampshire, Jeb is toast," said Senator Lindsey Graham, Republican of South Carolina, a Bush backer who spent most of Tuesday traveling the state with him. Mr. Graham added that Mr. Bush must either "tie Rubio or beat him" in this state.

The burden falls so heavily on Mr. Bush because of Republican anxieties about the top two finishers in Iowa, Mr. Cruz and Mr. Trump: Many party leaders fear that the nomination of Mr. Trump or Mr. Cruz would lead to an electoral rout this fall.

I predict Bush will stay around for S. Carolina regardless of how bad he does in NH. Reason is he has money and really hates Rubio for getting in the race and stealing his thunder.

In a normal world, absolutely no one would be talking about the candidate who finished sixth in Iowa and who was bumping along in the single digits. But this one’s name is Bush and the media hates the two guys in the lead, so . . . .

YEB! ...trolling the blue-hair vote in NH.

The Jeb Bush campaign says former first lady Barbara Bush is joining her son on the campaign trail in New Hampshire.

The campaign says Barbara Bush will be with Jeb Bush at his scheduled town hall Thursday night at a middle school in Derry.

She will also be with him Friday, according to the campaign. Jeb Bush is betting big on a win in New Hampshire following a poor showing in the Iowa caucus.

Thanks the encouragement Lindsey. Keep knocking on the doors with that strong message!

I WANT Buch to snag a few sympathy votes and finish 3rd.

It will crimp the Rubio narrative.

It’s hard to sell inevitability and momentum with only a 3rd and a 4th on your tally. Add in his likely 3rd in SC and Rubio will be hard pressed to claim the spotlight.

In that scenario, the only reason for Rubio to stick it out is in the hopes of a brokered convention.

Jeb campaign is almost out of cash. He will be lucky to have $1 million in the bank going into SC.

The best news for Cruz and Trump fans is that Bush has money, and this is personal. He ain’t calling off the dogs against Rubio anytime soon.

Stole his thunder? Thunder?
Hell, Yeb! can’t even put up a fart.
There is no noise from Bush.
You listen, and the the sound from Terri Schiavo drowns out mister common core.

Jeb is going to beat Rubio? My insides are killing me.... I’m dying of laughter.

Failed candidates like Linda Graham are oblivious to the mood of the American people.

NO ONE WANTS JEB. Period. They didn’t get the message in IA.

That’s how seriously the GOP establishment is out of touch with the party base and the country.

Agree, my bet is that Jeb is planning to run for Rubio’s Senate seat and this is just free PR for the Jeb! brand.

Sadly, he’d fit right in.

Being a Mama’s Boy inspires confidence in Jeb’ manliness.

NOT!

I’ve lived my life without family. And Jeb is blessed with parents but he doesn’t know grace.

That’s a thing the rest of us know under pressure.

They are not oblivious or out of touch, they are knowingly, actively thwarting the will of the people to stop The Cheap Labor Express.
They want the flood of fraudulently documented foreigners to continue. The don’t care that we don’t like it.

It is a bad sign for a squish when the Neew York Times goes brutal before the nomination:

Yet there are signs Mr. Bush may still have some work to do to finish in the top tier here. Speaking to a crowd at the Hanover Inn near the Vermont border during his final stop of the day, Mr. Bush finished a fiery riff about protecting the country as commander in chief -- "I won't be out here blowharding, talking a big game without backing it up," he said -- and was met with total silence.

"Please clap," he said, sounding defeated.

The crowd laughed -- and then, finally, clapped.
