Constitution...we don’t need no stinkin’ Constitution!
The Rubicon has been crossed. The American republic is now in the rearview mirror.
If the qualification has now been lowered to one US citizen parent - at least at one time - then we have opened a terrible door.
If not for Obama probably Cruz wouldn’t even be trying this.
And now Cruz has even a lower standard of citizenship by not being abot to claim being born on the soil.
It’s beyond me why so many cannot see the precedent this is setting up.
It is astonishing and dismaying to witness the gloating and high fiving by many on this forum at the near complete and utter disregard for a key constitutional provision that was intended to protect the office of President from foreign influenced disloyalty and treason. The Congress and much of this nation, by ignoring the strictures of Article II, Section 1 clause 5, have undoubtedly given us the demagogic, tyrannical, treasonous and marxist usurper Obama. We are risking repeating his like again in the future, with possibly worse results.
I believe that the harm that a creature like Obama can do to the constitutional republic is infinitely greater than the good that an otherwise patriot like Cruz can do FOR it. It is time to enforce the rule of constitutional law, rather than the cult of personality.
This matter has already been decided in 1971 by SCOTUS in the Rogers vs Bellei case. Bellei was stripped of his US citizenship by failure to comply with the statutory requirements of his naturalization. Bellei’s birth circumstances were identical to Cruz’s. No natural born citizen could be deprived of his citizenship in such a manner.
If Cruz’s mother did not file a Counsular Report of Birth Abroad for her son, and none is on file, than he is not even a US citizen. The opposition is sure to begin digging into this matter.
I really like Ted Cruz. Intellectually and philosophically he is the best candidate since Reagan. I wish he was eligible. His dissembling on this matter is extremely disturbing though. He isn’t by any streatch of the imagination an Article II eligible POTUS.
