Mars can get kinda spooky at times. E.g., here's a snapshot of Curiosity:

Any idea how they took that selfie? I’ve seen them before - but with the boom visible that holds the camera.

It's a composite of 57 images taken January 19th using the Mars Hand Lens Imager (MAHLI) at the end of the rover's robotic arm. They edited out any parts of the arm which intruded.

Thanks! Cool. In your previous photo, if I was an alien on Mars I’d be pretty spooked having that robot “head” peer into my window! So amazing how it is still working way past it’s anticipated lifetime.

Yes - at first I was imagining this mountain ridge with sand dunes and this odd gully and a land slide! It was an amazing and beautiful photo when I saw it as that - nice lighting, etc.
