WASHINGTON (AP) -- They say crime doesn't pay, but that might not be entirely true in the District of Columbia as lawmakers look for ways to discourage people from becoming repeat offenders.

The D.C. Council voted unanimously Tuesday to approve a bill that includes a proposal to pay residents a stipend not to commit crimes. It's based on a program in Richmond, California, that advocates say has contributed to deep reductions in crime there.

Funny, I was chatting to my cousin last evening who was traveling late to be in Dallas today. He was bemoaning the pace he does for his job. I told him just think of himself as an economic engine pulling the idle cars cars behind him and since he makes pretty good money, he gets to pull more cars than I do. He laughed so much he almost hit a pole then the truth of my analogy hit home and he asked the same thing, why the hell am I working this hard!

It really PO’s me when I think of all the tax money my wife and I shovel into the system and see the results: more bums laying about, poor schools, roads falling apart etc.

I find myself asking the same question with increasing frequency these days. The correlation between the constant sacrifice I make in my spending and quality of life and the carefree excesses enjoyed by others who do not work for it is draggin’ me down.

Think this kind of thing will work with muzziyes?

It's called Jizya , paid by the dhimmis .

Hopefully, by time our Imam-in-Chief is out of office, we won't look in the mirror and see one.
