Rubio-mania is upon us
The Week ^ | February 2, 2016 | Michael Brendan Dougherty

The takeaways from Monday night's Iowa caucuses are clear for Republicans: Ted Cruz was powered to victory by social conservatives and his superior ground game. Donald Trump's supporters — as was widely suspected — were less attached to the political process than their preferred political performer, and he subsequently underperformed his polls. Trump is far from finished, but Iowa was an ominous start for the frontrunner. And finally, the much anticipated Marco Rubio moment is here.

A lot of Carson supporters would have gone over to Cruz.... but the ‘dirty tricks’ story has Carson saying he will stay in the race for the long haul and he’s ticked at Cruz.

Hukcabee and Santorum have attacked Cruz as a phony and did show up to the Trump rally.

But the candidates don’t control voters. Even with an endorsement, they may go elsewhere.

The BIG BIG winner last night was Rubio.

Jeb and Kasich are toast and will be gone. ALL the GOP money and establishment will flock to him. He will get media protection with Fox already in full pimp mode.

They’ll encourage Trump and Cruz to kill each other. Then slide in Rubio like they did with Romney last time.

Trump and Cruz should go back to their truce.

Trumpsters and Cruzers need to unite. Quit hitting each other on social media and start hitting Rubio. Trump, lay off Cruz, Cruz lay off Trump. Trump and Cruz fans can agree on this: Rubio would be worse.

If Rubio did get the nomination, one question will take him out in the general election:

The Dems and Media will likely use that to the fullest extent possible.

Cruz was polled at getting 43% of the very conservative voters to Trump’s 21%. Is this weakness among very conservative voters going to help him in South Carolina? I don’t think so.

And being arrested in Miami in a parked car after hours really energizes me to want to pull that lever for Rubio.

Would Trump voters who like a brash macho style switch to the rather odd personality of Cruz? I don’t know.”

Cruz doesn’t back down. As Carville said, “he’s fearless” Nine US Supreme Court arguments, his Senate filibusters, etc. In fact, Cruz is the type who when he walks into a room knows to his core that he becomes the smartest there. He can stare down a rabid pit bull.

Why did Rubio only win 5 of the largest counties with the most votes: Dallas, Johnson, Polk, Scott, Story? He was mostly third or lower across the rest of the state. Is the establishment fix in? Why didn’t Cruz’s get out the vote effort work in these areas? Are there demographics in these areas that lean towards Rubio? What does extrapolating this very limited data tell us about Rubio’s results in other states? Voting info from https://www.iagopcaucuses.com/#/state

1) Our Founders would have never considered him a natural born citizen.

2) Yep! He has principles and is a smart lawyer, but that doesn't mean he has leadership skills to get his principles enacted into law.

Much of talk radio converged against Trump the day before and of the Iowa caucus. (Except Herman Caine and Hannity) I am now very disheartened and believe they will do the same again with every state until we get a Rubio win. I follow a lot of people on twitter and it was rabid with Trump attacks. I know they are trying to help Cruz but they are actually helping Rubio more.

Articles like this remind me that pundits are paid to throw words around - not necessarily to think.

One word comes to mind whenever i see Rubio on Television - WEASEL

“Unqualified Weasel”..

What am I missing?...Rubio is an anchor baby..his parents were not even citizens when he was born, neither one. By any stretch, he is not NBC. Yet everyone says “he’s the one to beat”..Has anyone told Marco that he is DOA?

Seriously, what am I missing?

Rubio will be the ‘guy that can win’

Rubio WOULD win... on looks alone. Put him up against Hillary? pffft!

Sometimes.... like Dole vs Clinton... it really is, JUST THAT EASY to know who would win.

There are others on our side that can win too... but, not as easily with the uninformed.

I just don’t see either Cruz or Rubio winning more than about 235 electoral votes. Solid, but not enough.

I dunno. I think Hillary is very strongly favored to win big in 2016. Just my instincts.

Nobody. I have felt this way for a year. Just playing the odds. Whether we like it or not, Obama has been the most successful democrat president since FDR. He promised he’d be transformative, and he has been. I expect his voters will reward him for achieving so many of the goals they like.

Now, you and I don’t think those goals are worthwhile, but that’s peripheral.
