Rubio-mania is upon us
The Week ^ | February 2, 2016 | Michael Brendan Dougherty

The takeaways from Monday night's Iowa caucuses are clear for Republicans: Ted Cruz was powered to victory by social conservatives and his superior ground game. Donald Trump's supporters — as was widely suspected — were less attached to the political process than their preferred political performer, and he subsequently underperformed his polls. Trump is far from finished, but Iowa was an ominous start for the frontrunner. And finally, the much anticipated Marco Rubio moment is here.

Rubio is the GOPe go-to guy now. He was the big winner. The other guys (Jeb included) will be starved of money. It’ll all go to Rubio.

Cruz and Trump will knock each other. Rubio will move up.

Rubio will be the ‘guy that can win’ - like Romney was...and McCain was. He will be the guy that comes through after Trump and Cruz kill each other.

man I like Ted but yesterday was Quite Close to some predicted polls.

at least not far enough to think the 22 points in NH is going to be lost by the Donald.

but Trump people should stop rooting so much for ted to come in third because they might be shocked when trump comes in second.

the media and establishment will not let go of power so easily.

Only if you are anxious to give the country away to fraudulently documented foreigners.

Because they work for The Cheap Labor Express and they expect the RNC to deliver the amnesty candidate they paid for.

I have trouble seeing Rubio play in New Hampshire.
He is so obviously insincere in everything.

I had a strange thought about the left, Democrats know that Hillary & Bernie have no chance with all the baggage of the past 8 years of Obama against the outsider candidates. I think Democrats crossed over to vote for Rubio. They voted for the least harmful Republican to keep the political elite status quo in power. Rubio is that political elite class candidate. Rubio is woefully unprepared to be President and can not stand up against stronger politicians. He rates with Ryan, McConnell, Boehner et al as a Rino. Democrats also know that Conservatives won’t hold their nose this time and vote for Rubio. So there would be a chance for Hillary if the fix is in for her to be the nominee.

Trump got schlonged. By coming in second he loses all of that free air coverage. Now, it shifts to Rubio, and Rubio may soon pick up much more mainstream support. Trump will have to engage in more stunts and antics, maybe some additional twitter wars and weird accusations, to pick up free airtime. Cruz needs to keep his momentum going; he needs to do very well in New Hampshire.

This is an ominous development. While conservatives are in a virtual civil war between Cruz and Trump I see the GOPe at last coalescing around one candidate.

Interesting that the 3rd place guy is being touted as the big winner and the 1st and 2nd place guys losers. It’s gonna be all Rubio all the time on the “news” outlets.

I agree.

Plus there is 12% support still in for “no-hopers” Bush Christie Huckabee Paul, that probably reapportions to Rubio. (ok, Maybe not Paul)

The real question is what happens to Cruz voters if Trump lasts longer than Cruz, and what happens to Trump voters if Cruz outlasts him.

Would Cruz voters who are doctrinaire Conservatives go to Trump who isn’t? I don’t know.

Would Trump voters who like a brash macho style switch to the rather odd personality of Cruz? I don’t know.

They’re both anti-establishment, in that sense they might move back and forth between Cruz and Trump, and it’s also hard to see them switch to Rubio if immigration is what they really care about, but that’s where the puzzle is.

Also what happens to Carson’s support assuming he gradually diminishes?

in the last three days I received over a dozen emails from Rubio’s people. No campaign was as active as Rubio’s in the last week. They went balls to the wall.

Rubio-mania.

FoxNews is rabid with it this morning. They hardly mention most of the others, but it is Rubio Rubio Rubio.

One commentator did sort of put FoxNews in its place. He said basically that Rubio finished 3rd. Finishing 3rd does not get one to the Oval Office.

{slap! take that, FoxNews}

He loses free air coverage for a week, and then he’ll trounce the competition in SC and have it all back again.

My BIGGEST FEAR may come true-— the conservative vote is confused & split and a PHONY CONSERVATIVE AMNESTY & OPEN BORDERS PIMP gets in...and that would be RUBIO (pride of the GOPe RINO establishment)!
