Although there's nothing here that CNN hasn't already reported, since I posted a copy of my email to the Cruz campaign, here's the response I received...

Thanks for sending us a note. You could have made a different choice and not shared your thoughts.

There is more to this event than might have been shared with you. I am going to send you a statement from Senator Cruz that was released this morning. Senator Cruz and Dr. Carson have spoken on this topic. The data was released on CNN and the campaign picked it up from the news channels. The campaign only relayed the info to other members on the team. Later than evening Dr. Carson's team sent out a clarifying release, our team did not pick up and forward it along.

We hope the additional information will help answer any requested and restore your faith in the team.

And here's the statement he forwarded from Senator Cruz, which CNN and others have reported:

Team, the following statement is from Sen. Cruz regarding the messages that went out last night about Dr. Ben Carson's schedule following the Iowa Caucus. Please let me know if you have any questions:

Ted Cruz: "First off I want to say that I am a huge fan of Dr. Ben Carson. He is a wonderful and talented individual, and I've thoroughly enjoyed our time together on the campaign trail.

"Last night when our political team saw the CNN post saying that Dr. Carson was not carrying on to New Hampshire and South Carolina, our campaign updated grassroots leaders just as we would with any breaking news story. Thatâ€™s fair game. What the team then should have done was send around the follow-up statement from the Carson campaign clarifying that he was indeed staying in the race when that came out.

"This was a mistake from our end, and for that I apologize to Dr. Carson."

Okay, I'll go ahead and make a donation. But it won't be the one I had in mind before all this **** hit the fan. Let's see seven consecutive days without another debacle.

The more I think about it the less the criticism of Cruz makes sense.

People caucused knowing they were going to be involved for nearly 3 hours. That's a much bigger commitment than simply voting. Those who were decided were not going to change their vote based on a rumor.

So about that rumor. How do they envision that rumor was spread? Cruz stood in front of 3500 people minutes before the vote and certainly didn't say anything about Carson dropping out. Those 3500 people had very little idea who the people standing next to them were voting for. So there was no ear to ear whisper campaign going on. It is really a whiny complaint that has no meaning in practical application.
